In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?The genre of my magazine is R&B/Hip-Hop, therefore I had researched many magazines with the same genre. I analysed a fewmagazines in order to look out for conventions that I could use in order for my magazine to clearly emphasise the genre. From myresearch I found out that the genres do not have a particular layout or theme that they must follow but tend to stand out becausethey have similar conventions compared to others such as ‘VIBE’ and ‘R&B’. Masthead Straplines This is a magazine which is of the genre ‘Rock’ but uses conventions and codes of any other music magazine. Medium shot image addressing audience This is my magazine in barcode which I have used many similar Kicker conventions.
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? My front cover which is placed on the left has many conventions such as a Masthead. The image I have used is however covering the Masthead to show that it is a common magazine in which the audience will be familiar about. The tagline ‘tunes.appearance.style’ follows on from the RNB magazine ‘MUSIC.LIFESTYLE.FASHION’ as they both relate to the genre. The straplines on the top of the magazine includes names of famous artists that the audience will be familiar about in which stand out from the blue background. I have balanced out elements on the page so that everything is not clumped together in one location which will help the audience recognise each important part. I have repeated the use of the shapes of rectangles on the artist name ‘Samantha Davis’ and ‘Music.com’ to make it look unified and cohesive. This adds a sense of controlled sophistication as it brings the page altogether as one. I have grouped elements together in a logical way as I have placed an artist name on the right hand side with a quote in an alignment.
