in Language Teaching

What is media based on
teaching?
Media in education could be defined as devices
acting as mediators among learner, teacher and
information focuses on the student´s progress.
According to Anita Cindric & Nevenka
Tatkovic, South African Educational
Researchers,
¨Media is the carriers and/ or mediators of
information¨
 Emphazied in Global changes
 Developing learners who are
thoughful and adaptable
 Media resorces in learner- centered
methodologies to develop language
skills promoting experimental learning
Functions:

 Educators have to be more
exploratory, active, selective and
initiative
 They are responsible to keep the
appropriate methodologies and
begin actively involve learners in
their own learning
 They should link the socio-cultural
context with experiences
 They need to develop critical
thinking and solving skills on
learners
 They need increase motivation and
by creative activities
 Students should be able to collect,
analyze, organize and critically
evaluate information
 They have to communicate using
visual, symbolic and/ or language
skills in various modes acquiring
language in natural way
 It´s essential their competitiveness
in the real life because of the time
changes
 They have to be under
predisposition to interact by media
 They should be able to perform by
influence of different technological,
logical and other skills

Activities

- Students learn communicatively and take responsibility of
their own learning
- This method is the suggested in the curriculum Program
by Ministry of Public Education of Costa Rica
- It focuses on transmit and receive information taking into
account culture, values, attitudes, language, specific goals,
and how teachers want model their learners to set up them in
competence prepared for the real world on taking of jobs or
professions.
Method: Communicative
Language Teaching

- Developed in 1983 by Dr. Howard Gardner´s professor
of education at Harvard University.
- Dr. Garner says that our schools and culture focus most
of their attention on linguistic and logical-mathematical
intelligence.
- It suggest teachers be trained to present their lessons
in a wide of ways using music, cooperative learning, art
activities, role plays, multimedia, field trips, inner
reflection and much more.

and/or where is available
to be accessed

- Train teachers how employ it.
- Integrate Media in the curriculum since the most popular and
used tools to receive good acceptation.
- Apply several appliances promoting interaction and natural
learning, not only the same.
- Be sure your activities be according to the educational goals
along the curriculum
- Increase a funny or interesting perception by the media for
learners.

Media in the classroom

  • 2. { What is media based on teaching? Media in education could be defined as devices acting as mediators among learner, teacher and information focuses on the student´s progress. According to Anita Cindric & Nevenka Tatkovic, South African Educational Researchers, ¨Media is the carriers and/ or mediators of information¨
  • 3.  Emphazied in Global changes  Developing learners who are thoughful and adaptable  Media resorces in learner- centered methodologies to develop language skills promoting experimental learning Functions:
  • 4. { {  Educators have to be more exploratory, active, selective and initiative  They are responsible to keep the appropriate methodologies and begin actively involve learners in their own learning  They should link the socio-cultural context with experiences  They need to develop critical thinking and solving skills on learners  They need increase motivation and by creative activities  Students should be able to collect, analyze, organize and critically evaluate information  They have to communicate using visual, symbolic and/ or language skills in various modes acquiring language in natural way  It´s essential their competitiveness in the real life because of the time changes  They have to be under predisposition to interact by media  They should be able to perform by influence of different technological, logical and other skills

  • 7. {  Completing dialogues by listening CD´s  Role plays by imitating short videos  Composing a letter, poem, a song or essay by recorders  Interviews by web cam  Skimming and scanning information by power point  Description of someone or something by flash cards  Reinforcing by social net interaction activities  And so forth… Activities
  • 8. { - Students learn communicatively and take responsibility of their own learning - This method is the suggested in the curriculum Program by Ministry of Public Education of Costa Rica - It focuses on transmit and receive information taking into account culture, values, attitudes, language, specific goals, and how teachers want model their learners to set up them in competence prepared for the real world on taking of jobs or professions. Method: Communicative Language Teaching
  • 9. { - Developed in 1983 by Dr. Howard Gardner´s professor of education at Harvard University. - Dr. Garner says that our schools and culture focus most of their attention on linguistic and logical-mathematical intelligence. - It suggest teachers be trained to present their lessons in a wide of ways using music, cooperative learning, art activities, role plays, multimedia, field trips, inner reflection and much more. Approach: Multiple Intelligences
  • 10. { {Pros  Media can be adapted by whatever method and approach  Offers cognitive and affective experiences  Connect learners with cultural events  Connect theories thought with the real world  It´s easy to get, cheaper and attractive for everyone Cons  It could be a trouble related to how it is used within the curriculum  It could cause distractions on learners and loose the teaching and learning purpose  It`s not really effective when or where use it, depend on the economic, social, religion circumstances and places and/or where is available to be accessed
  • 11. { - Train teachers how employ it. - Integrate Media in the curriculum since the most popular and used tools to receive good acceptation. - Apply several appliances promoting interaction and natural learning, not only the same. - Be sure your activities be according to the educational goals along the curriculum - Increase a funny or interesting perception by the media for learners. - ¨The Quality Learning by students, reside in their teacher¨ Assumptions
