How to Deal with “God Told Me” People

  1. How to Respond When Someone Says “God Told Me”
  2. I cringe often when I hear the phrase "God told me."
  3. God does speak to people today
  4. We all long to hear Gods voice and know His will
  5. Often our own flesh or the demonic realm speaks also
  6. Lives, marriages, ministries and businesses can be shipwrecked if we get it wrong
  7. What is the problem?
  8. The phrase can be a conversation-killer
  9. Typical reactionsÂ
  10. Say nothing and doubt
  11. Say nothing and believe
  12. Say, "Wow, that's awesome" and leave it at that
  13. Question the person: "Did you really?"
  14. Declare: "That doesnt sound like God".
  15. Saying nothing is the primary response for most
  16. It takes courage to confront or question
  17. Why so some abuse the phrase?
  18. 1. They want to appear spiritually mature
  19. Very few people are truly confident they hear from God clearly in a meaningful way
  20. 2. They do not want to have their position questioned.
  21. Whats the best way to respond if you want to challenge?
  22. “How do you know it was God?” “How do you know it’s not just your flesh?” “Has anyone close to you challenged what you heard? “Has anyone confirmed what you think you have heard?” “Hmm… that doesn’t really sound like God to me because … “ (You should have a relevant scripture or personal revelation to share here).” “For some reason, that doesn’t really resonate in my spirit.”
  23. If you are the offender, consider another option
  24. Say, "I believe God told me"
  25. You leave the door open for confirmation
  26. You'll sound less prideful to others
  27. Lets avoid unnecessary heartache
  28. If you need to confront someone on this, use wisdom and do it in love
  29. The Lord didn't initiate a lot of the journeys people take in His name
