1. After more than 30 years of working with rotating electrical machines I can help you
with:
- electromagnetic design of the motors
motors are product of mass production, but every application is unique. Adjusting motor
parameters can make motor more efficient or more powerful or having better starting
characteristics.
- thermal design/evaluation of the motors
every 10 degrees of temperature rise cut the insulation life by half; every DOL start of the
motor is equivalent to 20 hours of operation. Knowing exactly what is the temperature of
particular part of the motor will help to prolong life of the motor or choose optimal
operation mode. Knowing rotor temperature will help to determine how many starts the
motor can withstand per hour or number of starts until the rotor bar will crack.
- fan and aerodynamics design of the motors
oversized internal fan can cause increase of the motor temperature instead of decreasing
it; undersized fan will cause overheating; incorrectly designed fan will cause excessive
noise and loss of efficiency.
- motor selection
no matter how well you maintain your motor, if it is not suitable for what it is doing, it
will fail; right type (induction or synchronous or may be DC?), right protection level,
right voltage and power; there are so many variables to take into consideration.
- commissioning of the motors
after you’ve chosen and installed the motor, you have to make sure it is “comfortable” at
the place of operation. This will provide long and efficient operation.
- maintenance strategy
the most fashionable term in maintenance now is Asset Management. everybody heard of
it, but not necessarily understands it. It is similar to the time when condition monitoring
was introduce first; everybody wanted to do it, but sometimes it is just a waste of money.
And when condition monitoring is required it is good to know what to monitor, when and
how, and most importantly what to do with the results.
- and last but not least – training
I can train you in everything I mentioned above. Human error is a cause of many
equipment faults. Making quick and correct action may save time and money.
Understanding the meaning of the test results or unusual motor behaviour will help in
avoiding unexpected failure and one saved motor and one avoidance of lost time and
production will pay generously for training cost.
