CHOOSE YOUR WORDS CAREFULLY • Succinct • average TV sound bite = 7 seconds • Compelling • Treat every interview as if it was live (extra web content) • Don’t Ramble • Speak Clearly & Enthusiastically • Avoid Jargon, use simple language • Do not answer “yes” or “no” ALAN J. BODY LANGUAGE / HAND GESTURES • Movement animates the discussion and supports your view • Works on radio as well as TV • Practice standing and sitting, relaxed but energenic • In a chair… don’t swivel, lean away, fidget, rock, tap, etc. • DO NOT cross your arms (defensive/closed off) • EYE CONTACT • TV interview: eyes on the reporter • Don’t stare off, to the side or up • Exception: Studio Interview via Satellite (look straight in) ALAN J.
