Mr. Iles has over 20 years of experience in both the public and private sector. His experience includes: corridor
studies, signal coordination studies using Synchro software, traffic impact studies, planning, construction plans, traffic
calming studies, safety and speed studies, and detailed assessments of traffic operations and traffic controls. Working
for the Franklin County Engineer’s office, he analyzed all the county-maintained signals; implementing and fine-tuning
the new timings. He was the lead engineer for a traffic signal retiming project for the City of Fort Lauderdale that
included seven key corridors and over 30 signals throughout the City. In addition to modeling existing and
recommended timing patterns, he worked with City staff to input the optimized timings and fine-tune the system. He
also worked for the Florida DOT as a traffic analyst. In this position, he forecast and modeled traffic for projects in
the planning stages.

This TIS was for five buildings totaling over 2.3SKF, including
the Amazon warehouse. The study included 10 intersections
(six site driveways).
Heritage Preserve TIS, Hilliard, OH
This TIS was for multiple use development of single family
and apartment development. Recommendations included
roundabout and stop control intersections.
Diersing Yarnell Vinmar TIS, Delaware, OH
This TIS involved traffic flow for an expanding subdivision and
a new development. Analysis included planned realignment of
future roadway network.
Shamrock TIS, Delaware, OH
This Traffic Impact Study for a 162 unit residential
development at the Shamrock Golf Club in Delaware County.
Crownover TIS, Delaware, OH
This Traffic Impact Study for a 106 unit residential
development in Delaware County.
Hall & Galloway Road TIS, Columbus, OH
This Traffic Impact Study measured the impact of a new
shopping center, with outparcels, with proposed driveway
across from driveways to an existing shopping center.
Teays Valley Schools TIS, Pickaway County, OH
Study for two new schools in Pickaway County, to determine
improvements needed for existing and full build conditions.

Schatzman Properties, Traffic Impact Study, Cincinnati,
OH
Trip generation and assignment to local traffic network for
residential and commercial development. Analysis of existing
and future traffic volumes – in terms of warrants and capacity
conditions.
Grange Insurance Traffic Study, Columbus, OH
Study for new building and new garage addition to the
existing Grange site. New employee traffic flow assigned
based on existing employee zip code, future traffic analysis
included Whittier Peninsula Development.
Traffic Operations
Frontage Road Timing, Dallas, TX
Created optimized signal timing for use if interstate traffic is
diverted to the frontage road during due to crashes or other
unexpected, temporary lane closures.
Eastern Corridor Safety Study, Newtown, OH
Colleting historic crash data, at locations identified by ODOT
as high crash locations, and summarizing the crash types and
identifying possible improvements.
ROS 50, Western Avenue Improvements, Chillicothe,
OH
This project is approximately 2.33 miles identified as a high
priority in need of safety and capacity improvements. Project
included complete analysis of the crash data and
recommendation of three alternative based on stakeholder
input, safety improvement, environmental impacts and cost.
Weinland Park Traffic Study, Columbus, OH
Analysis of a one way pair of Summit Street and 4th
Street,
in Columbus, using Synchro to created coordinated timings
and make recommendations about capacity improvements. The
project was approximately 1.5 miles each direction and
included 16 signalized intersections.
4th
& Summit Signal Design, Columbus, OH
This project includes the first in Columbus Cycle Track
signals. A 2-way bike lane with bicycle signal heads.
Additionally, signal optimization and timing for 20 signals from
Warren Avenue to Hudson Street. Signal design for six
intersections and modification of 14 additional intersections.
Perimeter Drive & Holt Road, Dublin, OH
The existing striping at this intersection contained many
conflict points, with access to businesses and apartment
complexes near the intersection, and a transition to a single
lane just before the intersection. Two striping options were
provide to the City to improve traffic flow and enhance safety
at the intersection.
Hard Road & Claddaugh Lane/Scioto HS driveway,
Dublin, OH
An existing merge on Hard Road in front of Scioto High
School was studied to enhance safety. The existing condition
had a merge just through a traffic signal at the high school
driveway. The study provided a striping recommendation to
merge traffic before the signal, using the existing pavement.
Stygler Road at US 62 and at Agler Road, Gahanna,
OH
This project was a forecasting/planning study and signal
retiming. The study intersections are closely spaced and
operate as a coordinated pair. Coordinated timings were
prepared to optimize flow for the existing conditions. Future
traffic volumes were forecasted to determine capacity
improvements, and the approximated year they would be
needed, to maintain flow through 2030.
Groveport Road & Bixby Road, Obetz, OH
Performed post construction turn on meeting and aided Village
in evaluation of signal operation, final field timing adjustments,
and comparison of final construction to plans.
Signal Corridor Optimization*, Fort Lauderdale, FL
Progression timing for all the signals owned by the City of
Fort Lauderdale. Progression timing was prepared for five
timing patterns.

Lancaster Pike Signal Coordination, Circleville, OH
Three signals were coordinated to accommodate traffic
southbound to eastbound and westbound to northbound. The
primary objective was to provide gaps for egress from an
existing strip type mall, which did not have signalized access.
Signal Corridor Optimization, Dublin, OH
Analysis of existing conditions to identify existing traffic flow
issues. The final outcome was optimized progression timing for
all the signalized intersections.
Hardin 31 Safety Study, Hardin County, OH
This safety study included analysis of existing roadway
conditions, intersection sight distance, and three years of
crash data to identify crash type and frequency. Collisions
diagrams and rate of return calculations were performed to
identify the solutions that would be viable for Safety Finding.
Huntington Signal Optimization Study, Huntington, WV
The scope of this study included field collection of existing
controller equipment, ADA compliance, and roadway geometry.
Analysis included Synchro optimization, and analysis of three
years of crash data, for all 115 signalized intersections. A
prioritized list of projects was provided in a form that would
update all the intersections in 16 years. CMAQ and Safety
funding was secured as a result of this study.
The Oaks Turn Lane Analysis, Delaware County, OH
This study evaluated the need for turn lanes on an existing
roadway into a proposed development. The study evaluated
sight distance and turn lane needs.
Drug Mart Traffic Study, Columbus, OH
This study was used to evaluate how conditions have
changed at existing intersections as a result of changing
occupancy in an existing retail outlet.
I-55 Managed Lane Study, Chicago, IL
The I-55 project consist of adding 25 miles northbound and
southbound (50 lane miles) from the suburbs to downtown
Chicago. Work on the project included specifications for
overhead electronic signing, electronic enforcement mechanisms
and monitoring software. Additional work included HCS
analyses of freeways, ramps, merge and diverge segments.
US 62 Corridor Study, Hillsboro, OH
This study included Step 1-3 of the Minor Project
Development Process (PDP). The study area included 20
intersections, nine signalized. Field work included: inventory of
signal equipment, controller settings, detection, lane alignment,
and observation of traffic flow. Analysis included capacity
analysis, turn lane warrants, turn lane length, signal warrant,
and Synchro optimization for existing and future traffic flows.
Three years of crash data was also analyzed. The study
process included incorporation of input from stakeholders into
the alternatives selected. The final report included short,
intermediate, and long term recommendations and a document
ready to be carried on to the next step in the PDP process.
General Traffic Engineering Services, Dublin, OH
Assisted with various studies for the City, including the City-
wide Signal Coordination Study and Improvement Prioritization
Study. Other studies addressed: Traffic Calming, Speed,
Crosswalks, Striping Modifications, Intersection Capacity, Signal
Timings, and Signal and Stop Sign Warrant Analyses.
Assisted City in development of a revised Traffic Calming
Policy.
WAR-71 IMS, Warren County, OH
An Interchange Modification Study analysis for I-71 in near
Kings Island included HCS Freeway Segment, Merge, and
Diverge analyses.
HAM-71 IMS, Hamilton County, OH
An Interchange Modification Study (IMS) analysis to add a
new northbound lane to I-71 between SR 562 (Norwood
Lateral) and the Red Bank Expressway (CR 67). Analyses
included intersection capacity, merge, diverge, weave and
ramp junction.
OSU Marion Campus, Marion, OH
Capacity and operational analysis using Synchro for a new
driveway at the OSU Marion Campus as part of a campus
expansion. Additionally, the analysis included recommended
storage and traffic control for internal parking lot driveway
intersection.

Traffic Signals, Signing and Marking
Hamilton Road Phase B (S Curve) Signal Plans,
Columbus, OH
These plans included a new roadway segment adding a south
leg to the Dublin-Granville Road & Hamilton Road
intersection. The traffic signal is a mast arm installation with
video detection. The plans also include approximately 5,000
feet of conduit bank.
Global Court & Alum Creek Drive Signal Plans, Obetz,
OH
Plans for a new spanwire traffic signal at a new driveway for
the Amazon site.
Toy Road & Alum Creek Drive Signal Plans, Obetz,
OH
Plans for a replacement spanwire traffic signal because of
roadway widening. These plans also include over 1,000 feet
of concrete encased interconnect conduit bank.
Alton and Darby Creek Road & Davis Road Signal
Plans, Hilliard, OH
A new spanwire traffic signal with roadway loop video
detection.
BUT-747 Signal Plans, Hamilton, OH
Three mast arm signal plans prepared to ODOT District 8
requirements including 2070 controllers and radar detection
(stop bar and advance). Plan intersections: SR 747 &
Willow Ridge/Carriage House, SR 747 & Princeton Road, SR
747 & Milliken Road.
BUT-CR 19 Signal Plans, Hamilton, OH
These plans include two combination mast arm signal plans
prepared to Butler County standards. The plans also include
video detection, radar detection, preemption, and spread
spectrum radio interconnect. The plan intersections are: CR 19
(Cincinnati-Dayton Road) & West Chester Road and CR 19
& Lesourdesville-West Chester/Station Road.
HAM-71 Signal Plans, Cincinnati, OH
A spanwire traffic signal for ODOT District 8 at Ramp N &
Kennedy Avenue.
Alum Creek Drive & Groveport Road, Study and
Design, Obetz, OH
The study followed ODOT’s Minor PDP with the objective of
improving safety and reducing congestion. Both traditional and
non-traditional improvements were considered at both the
intersection and the adjacent interchange with I-270. The final
project included roundabouts on sides of the mainline, a truss
style traffic signal, and grade separation of through and right
turn side street traffic.
Marion Phase 5 Signal Improvement Project, Multiple
Signal and Interconnect Plans, Marion, OH
Plans prepared for four signal upgrades and one new signal
installation. Plans also included completing fiber optic
interconnect throughout the city. Also included upgrading of
the City’s central computer system.
West Broad Street & Grener Avenue, Signal
Improvements, Columbus, OH
A turn lane was added, and pedestrian features added to an
existing signal installation.
HOC-664-4.08, Hocking County, OH
Development of MOT and Signing and Marking plans for 0.82
miles of roadway realignment on SR 664 adjacent to the
Hocking Hills Stage Park, near Old Man’s Cave.
Village Square Signals, Sunbury, OH
This project included the design of mast arm signals at
Cherry Street & Columbus Street and Cherry Street & Vernon
Street, for the main Village Square in the historic district of
Sunbury.
Georgesville Road & Clime Road, Columbus, OH
This signal plan was a new design, using span wire, to
accommodate widening and the addition of a new approach.

Sawmill Road Signals and Interconnect, Columbus, OH
The existing intersections of Sawmill Road & Hard Road and
Sawmill Road & Summer Drive were redesigned. The
redesign was necessary to accommodate a new approach at
Summer Drive and widening/geometric changes at Hard Road.
These plans also included interconnect plans for the newly
designed signals and to the upstream and downstream
intersections. Plans also included signing and striping plans.
East Broad Street & Bannockburn Boulevard, Signal
and Interconnect, Columbus, OH
This intersection is a span wire design to accommodate a
fourth leg to an existing intersection.
Alum Creek Drive Widening & Design, Columbus, OH
This corridor included four signalized intersections. The plans
included new signals and redesign of existing intersections;
both mast arm and strain pole designs were used for this
corridor.
Mt Vernon Trail Connector, Mt Vernon, OH
Operational analysis of the Columbus Street & Main Street
intersection to add pedestrian features. Ultimately a new signal
design at the intersection.
Delaware County Roundabout, Delaware, OH
Signing and marking plan for a new roundabout at the
intersection of Worthington Road, Lewis Center Road & Rome
Corners.

Eastern Corridor Safety Study, Newtown, OH Colleting historic crash data, at locations identified by ODOT as high crash locations, and summarizing the crash types and identifying possible improvements. ROS 50, Western Avenue Improvements, Chillicothe, OH This project is approximately 2.33 miles identified as a high priority in need of safety and capacity improvements. Project included complete analysis of the crash data and recommendation of three alternative based on stakeholder input, safety improvement, environmental impacts and cost. Weinland Park Traffic Study, Columbus, OH Analysis of a one way pair of Summit Street and 4th Street, in Columbus, using Synchro to created coordinated timings and make recommendations about capacity improvements. The project was approximately 1.5 miles each direction and included 16 signalized intersections. 4th & Summit Signal Design, Columbus, OH This project includes the first in Columbus Cycle Track signals. A 2-way bike lane with bicycle signal heads. Additionally, signal optimization and timing for 20 signals from Warren Avenue to Hudson Street. Signal design for six intersections and modification of 14 additional intersections. Perimeter Drive & Holt Road, Dublin, OH The existing striping at this intersection contained many conflict points, with access to businesses and apartment complexes near the intersection, and a transition to a single lane just before the intersection. Two striping options were provide to the City to improve traffic flow and enhance safety at the intersection. Hard Road & Claddaugh Lane/Scioto HS driveway, Dublin, OH An existing merge on Hard Road in front of Scioto High School was studied to enhance safety. The existing condition had a merge just through a traffic signal at the high school driveway. The study provided a striping recommendation to merge traffic before the signal, using the existing pavement. Stygler Road at US 62 and at Agler Road, Gahanna, OH This project was a forecasting/planning study and signal retiming. The study intersections are closely spaced and operate as a coordinated pair. Coordinated timings were prepared to optimize flow for the existing conditions. Future traffic volumes were forecasted to determine capacity improvements, and the approximated year they would be needed, to maintain flow through 2030. Groveport Road & Bixby Road, Obetz, OH Performed post construction turn on meeting and aided Village in evaluation of signal operation, final field timing adjustments, and comparison of final construction to plans. Signal Corridor Optimization*, Fort Lauderdale, FL Progression timing for all the signals owned by the City of Fort Lauderdale. Progression timing was prepared for five timing patterns.

The primary objective was to provide gaps for egress from an existing strip type mall, which did not have signalized access. Signal Corridor Optimization, Dublin, OH Analysis of existing conditions to identify existing traffic flow issues. The final outcome was optimized progression timing for all the signalized intersections. Hardin 31 Safety Study, Hardin County, OH This safety study included analysis of existing roadway conditions, intersection sight distance, and three years of crash data to identify crash type and frequency. Collisions diagrams and rate of return calculations were performed to identify the solutions that would be viable for Safety Finding. Huntington Signal Optimization Study, Huntington, WV The scope of this study included field collection of existing controller equipment, ADA compliance, and roadway geometry. Analysis included Synchro optimization, and analysis of three years of crash data, for all 115 signalized intersections. A prioritized list of projects was provided in a form that would update all the intersections in 16 years. CMAQ and Safety funding was secured as a result of this study. The Oaks Turn Lane Analysis, Delaware County, OH This study evaluated the need for turn lanes on an existing roadway into a proposed development. The study evaluated sight distance and turn lane needs. Drug Mart Traffic Study, Columbus, OH This study was used to evaluate how conditions have changed at existing intersections as a result of changing occupancy in an existing retail outlet. I-55 Managed Lane Study, Chicago, IL The I-55 project consist of adding 25 miles northbound and southbound (50 lane miles) from the suburbs to downtown Chicago. Work on the project included specifications for overhead electronic signing, electronic enforcement mechanisms and monitoring software. Additional work included HCS analyses of freeways, ramps, merge and diverge segments. US 62 Corridor Study, Hillsboro, OH This study included Step 1-3 of the Minor Project Development Process (PDP). The study area included 20 intersections, nine signalized. Field work included: inventory of signal equipment, controller settings, detection, lane alignment, and observation of traffic flow. Analysis included capacity analysis, turn lane warrants, turn lane length, signal warrant, and Synchro optimization for existing and future traffic flows. Three years of crash data was also analyzed. The study process included incorporation of input from stakeholders into the alternatives selected. The final report included short, intermediate, and long term recommendations and a document ready to be carried on to the next step in the PDP process. General Traffic Engineering Services, Dublin, OH Assisted with various studies for the City, including the City- wide Signal Coordination Study and Improvement Prioritization Study. Other studies addressed: Traffic Calming, Speed, Crosswalks, Striping Modifications, Intersection Capacity, Signal Timings, and Signal and Stop Sign Warrant Analyses. Assisted City in development of a revised Traffic Calming Policy. WAR-71 IMS, Warren County, OH An Interchange Modification Study analysis for I-71 in near Kings Island included HCS Freeway Segment, Merge, and Diverge analyses. HAM-71 IMS, Hamilton County, OH An Interchange Modification Study (IMS) analysis to add a new northbound lane to I-71 between SR 562 (Norwood Lateral) and the Red Bank Expressway (CR 67). Analyses included intersection capacity, merge, diverge, weave and ramp junction. OSU Marion Campus, Marion, OH Capacity and operational analysis using Synchro for a new driveway at the OSU Marion Campus as part of a campus expansion. Additionally, the analysis included recommended storage and traffic control for internal parking lot driveway intersection.

Global Court & Alum Creek Drive Signal Plans, Obetz, OH Plans for a new spanwire traffic signal at a new driveway for the Amazon site. Toy Road & Alum Creek Drive Signal Plans, Obetz, OH Plans for a replacement spanwire traffic signal because of roadway widening. These plans also include over 1,000 feet of concrete encased interconnect conduit bank. Alton and Darby Creek Road & Davis Road Signal Plans, Hilliard, OH A new spanwire traffic signal with roadway loop video detection. BUT-747 Signal Plans, Hamilton, OH Three mast arm signal plans prepared to ODOT District 8 requirements including 2070 controllers and radar detection (stop bar and advance). Plan intersections: SR 747 & Willow Ridge/Carriage House, SR 747 & Princeton Road, SR 747 & Milliken Road. BUT-CR 19 Signal Plans, Hamilton, OH These plans include two combination mast arm signal plans prepared to Butler County standards. The plans also include video detection, radar detection, preemption, and spread spectrum radio interconnect. The plan intersections are: CR 19 (Cincinnati-Dayton Road) & West Chester Road and CR 19 & Lesourdesville-West Chester/Station Road. HAM-71 Signal Plans, Cincinnati, OH A spanwire traffic signal for ODOT District 8 at Ramp N & Kennedy Avenue. Alum Creek Drive & Groveport Road, Study and Design, Obetz, OH The study followed ODOT’s Minor PDP with the objective of improving safety and reducing congestion. Both traditional and non-traditional improvements were considered at both the intersection and the adjacent interchange with I-270. The final project included roundabouts on sides of the mainline, a truss style traffic signal, and grade separation of through and right turn side street traffic. Marion Phase 5 Signal Improvement Project, Multiple Signal and Interconnect Plans, Marion, OH Plans prepared for four signal upgrades and one new signal installation. Plans also included completing fiber optic interconnect throughout the city. Also included upgrading of the City’s central computer system. West Broad Street & Grener Avenue, Signal Improvements, Columbus, OH A turn lane was added, and pedestrian features added to an existing signal installation. HOC-664-4.08, Hocking County, OH Development of MOT and Signing and Marking plans for 0.82 miles of roadway realignment on SR 664 adjacent to the Hocking Hills Stage Park, near Old Man’s Cave. Village Square Signals, Sunbury, OH This project included the design of mast arm signals at Cherry Street & Columbus Street and Cherry Street & Vernon Street, for the main Village Square in the historic district of Sunbury. Georgesville Road & Clime Road, Columbus, OH This signal plan was a new design, using span wire, to accommodate widening and the addition of a new approach.

These plans also included interconnect plans for the newly designed signals and to the upstream and downstream intersections. Plans also included signing and striping plans. East Broad Street & Bannockburn Boulevard, Signal and Interconnect, Columbus, OH This intersection is a span wire design to accommodate a fourth leg to an existing intersection. Alum Creek Drive Widening & Design, Columbus, OH This corridor included four signalized intersections. The plans included new signals and redesign of existing intersections; both mast arm and strain pole designs were used for this corridor. Mt Vernon Trail Connector, Mt Vernon, OH Operational analysis of the Columbus Street & Main Street intersection to add pedestrian features. Ultimately a new signal design at the intersection. Delaware County Roundabout, Delaware, OH Signing and marking plan for a new roundabout at the intersection of Worthington Road, Lewis Center Road & Rome Corners.
