Searching the Catalog and Placing a Hold

 1. 1. Searching the Catalog

Search the Dixon Public Library catalog for DVDs, CDs, books, CD-ROMs, etc from home or in the library.

Place a hold on those materials that Dixon does not own and

have them sent to Dixon.

This is free and takes no longer than

2 or 3 days if the item is on the shelf

at another library.

 2. 2. Enter title, author, or keyword search in this box on our website. Click on “Go”
 3. 3. What happened? I don’t see Harry Potter books. To fix your search scroll down to the bottom of the page.
 4. 4. Click on “Limit Search”
 5. 5. 1. Click on “Dixon Public Library” 2. Click on “Search”
 6. 6. Only items on the shelf in Dixon appear on the list. I want Harry Potter and the deathly Hallows so I click on the link.
 7. 7. Click on “where to find it” to see where to find copies of this book.
 8. 8. There are many copies available and 4 copies that are “Not Checked Out” in Dixon. The call number tells me where it is on the shelf.
 9. 9. Next I decide that I need a DVD to watch. I like Spiderman, but Dixon doesn’t have a copy. Click on “Place holds” to have a copy of this DVD sent to Dixon.
 10. 10. Fill in the boxes and click on “Enter.”
 11. 11. I click on the bubble next to the library where I want the DVD to be sent. Click on “Place Hold.” The library will call me when my DVD has arrived
