  3. 3. Mouth<br />Where the system starts<br />Turns food mushy<br />Breaks it down with chewing and uses enzymes in our body<br />
  4. 4. Esophagus<br />Connects the mouth to the stomach<br />Moves through by peristalsis<br />Peristalsis is a series of muscle contractions that move down<br />
  5. 5. Stomach<br />Provides basics of early digestion ex. holding meals for a long time<br />Where the food is liquefied<br />Once it’s liquefied it moves down to the small intestine<br />
  6. 6. Liver<br />Produces sugar from fatty substances<br />Stores specific vitamins and processes fat<br />Filters out toxic wastes in your body<br />
  7. 7. Pancreas<br />Makes hormones called insulin and glucagon<br />Insulin helps regulate the blood glucose level<br />An organ including enzymes that make cells<br />
  8. 8. Gallbladder<br />A small pouch in your body<br />Produces bile which helps to digest fats in the foods you eat<br />Releases it into the duodenum to help absorb fats<br />
  9. 9. Rectum<br />Only 5 cm long<br />Where the feces is stored right before excretion<br />Connects to the anus<br />
