What is Edwards syndrome <ul><li>Also known as trisomy 18 </li></ul><ul><li>Edwards is a syndrome which is the second most common autosomal trisomy after Down syndrome </li></ul><ul><li>Actually Edwards has a very low chance of survival , Rarely will they live for a year </li></ul><ul><li>Most of them die form heart abnormalities </li></ul><ul><li>But they also die from kidney malformations, and other internal organ disorders </li></ul><ul><li>Also this type of trisomy is not hereditary.. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Causes for Edwards <ul><li>There are exactly fourty seven chromosomes </li></ul><ul><li>But sometimes there is a extra chromosome on the chromosome pair eighteen which cause's the Edwards syndrome </li></ul>

Symptoms <ul><li>Some symptoms are </li></ul><ul><li>Mental retardation </li></ul><ul><li>Small head and eyes </li></ul><ul><li>small jaw, low-set ears, and a strawberry-shaped head </li></ul><ul><li>Many parts of their body don't finish developing like for an example is their brains are not proper;y developed </li></ul>

Prognosis <ul><li>Most of the infants die before birth </li></ul><ul><li>The median life span is about five to fifteen days </li></ul><ul><li>And at least one percent born with Edwards live to only about ten years old </li></ul><ul><li>But it is VERY difficult to determine the survival rate </li></ul>
  6. 6. Treatment <ul><li>Well the treatment really depends on the patient's health </li></ul>
