Route: Blackrock Cycle Route (Booterstown to Dún Laoghaire) Description: Cycle route linking Booterstown to Dún Laoghaire, partly shared with pedestrian, through park, contra-flow cycle route, roadway and laneway. Distance: Total length of about 5km (About 3km off road) Cycle time: About 20 -25 minutes To suit: For cyclists with a moderate level of fitness.The shared cycle and pedestrian routes in Blackrock Park and inside the Dart line near Seapoint are suitable for young children. Links: Good links to nearby residential areas, schools and shops in Booterstown, Blackrock, Seapoint, Monkstown and Dún Laoghaire. Route benefits: This route is an ideal cycle route for families and commuters that links Booterstown, Blackrock, Seapoint, Monkstown and Dún Laoghaire. Cycling in the County Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council is committed to improving facilities for cyclists. In the 2012, the Council developed a County Cycle Network, following an assessment of all existing routes in the County. The main objectives of this assessment were: >> To identify and implement safe cycling routes to key destinations in the County. >> To retrofit areas towards creating sustainable neighbourhoods so that cycling, together with walking, can be the best option for local trips. >> To help prioritise funding to deliver cost effective cycle friendly improvements to the cycle network in the County. The aim of the improved cycle network was to create conditions to encourage and facilitate increased levels of cycling in the County by providing direct routes with a high level of service.This leaflet provides details of one route being enhanced as part of the County Cycle Network. You can take your bike onto the Dart and Commuter trains during off peak travel periods in Dublin including all day Saturday and Sunday. > Booterstown to Blackrock – The route commences at Blackrock Park at Booterstown Dart station. It then continues along a car free cycleway in the park and exits the park at a narrow laneway at Blackrock Dart Station. > Blackrock to Seapoint – The route continues from Blackrock Dart Station to Idrone Terrace and then turns left onto a contra- flow cycle track on Newtown Avenue.The route then joins traffic on Seapoint Avenue. > Seapoint to Dún Laoghaire – The route turns left into Brighton Vale and then turns right and continues along a shared pedestrian/ cycleway between the Dart line and the seafront.
