Background <ul><li>1 st Social Media Club (SMC) formed summer 2006 by Kristie Wells & Chris Heuer. </li></ul><ul><li>Global network of clubs and membership has grown steadily </li></ul><ul><li>Today SMC is a 503 C(6) Trade Association </li></ul><ul><ul><li>300 plus chapters worldwide </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>6 of the 7 continents </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>300,000 plus members </li></ul></ul><ul><li>SMC’s Primary Mission </li></ul><ul><ul><li>“ To expand digital media literacy, promote standard technologies, encourage ethical behavior, and share best practices </li></ul></ul>

Starting an Education Chapter <ul><li>A Social Media Club (SMC) Education Chapter may be established at any college or university that is accredited by a nationally or regionally recognized accrediting association or board. </li></ul><ul><li>What do you need? </li></ul><ul><ul><li>10 or more university employees who will actively support the club and its activities. </li></ul></ul>

Student Media Clubs <ul><li>What is the process to start a club? </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Find 10 or more university employees to actively support the chapter and become SMC Education members. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Create chapter charter (constitution) and by-laws on how the chapter will operate. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Submit the completed SMC Education Chapter Application form, application fee and the chapter by-laws for review. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Note: the application fee is being waved during the 2011-2012 academic year. Education memberships are $10. </li></ul></ul>
