  1. 1. Hello USC It’s 4:20 and I’m taking notes on what to talk about
  2. 2. Blogging • Don't try to define it. • We can have the debate later if you want... but for now understand • These are not “bloggers” they are doctors, lawyers, clerks,.... people. Some are smart, some are not. But they are all sources in something.
  3. 3. Blogging is Conversation • The MOST important thing to realize is that blogs don’t exist in a vacuum. It is a party and wifi is your invitation.
  4. 4. Story Telling Tools • Photoshop, Slide Shows, Flash, Audio, etc. • Mark Briggs will turn you into mulit-media ninjas.
  5. 5. Story Telling Tools • Some tools are also social..... • Flickr and YouTube are examples. • On these sites you can tell a story AND make friends.
  6. 6. All Media is Social • Steve Rubel (a marketer) often says that “all media is social” and I think there is truth to that. • You don't want to just inform your audience you want to engage them.
  7. 7. Social Tools • Twitter, Facebook, Seesmic, Skype, • Social sides are built into story telling tools like......Slideshare.net
  8. 8. Social News Sites • Publish2, Digg, Reddit, NewsVine, Mixx, etc. • JOURNALISTS SHOULD OWN THIS SPACE!!!!!!
  9. 9. Aggregators • Memeorandum, Technorati, • Personal: RSS, Google Reader, DailyMe, NewsGator,
  10. 10. Mindset to have when online • Have a yes... I'll try this attitude. • Why.....? • It’s not going away. These are tools.
  11. 11. Entrepreneuralism • Is possible!!! Ask anybody in the tech industry. • Much of the innovation is around the exchange of information. There is a market for journalists but.....
  12. 12. Expanding Horizons • We should expand our horizons of. • What a journalist does. • Where journalism takes place.
