NAME OR LOGO What are they? 2 Phishing Attacks An email pretends to be from a trusted contact, & entices a user to click a malicious link, download a malicious file, or give access to sensitive information, account details or credentials. Malware, short for "malicious software," refers to a type of computer program designed to infect a legitimate user's computer and steal data. NAME OR LOGO Advise employees to not open emails if: * The sender has an unfamiliar email address - even if appears to be from a reputable source. * It contains grammatical or spelling errors. * The email addresses you by your last name instead of just your first name. * The email requests you to click on a link or makes any request out of the ordinary. 4 1. Teach them to spot suspicious emails Train employees to identify phishing scams. It’s important to keep reminding employees to be vigilant about email. Set policies for guarding sensitive business information The main risk that cybercriminals pose to users is stealing online banking information such as banking and credit card accounts and passwords. They may then use it to drain your account or run up fraudulent credit card bills in your name. Or they may sell your account information on the black market, where this confidential information fetches a good price. So to protect against Malware: 1. Personal vigilance ~ Be wary of emails that ask you to provide account numbers or passwords. 2. Phishers will try to trick employees into installing malware, or gain intelligence for attacks by claiming to be from IT. 2. Do not pay the ransom. Even if the ransom is paid, there is no guarantee that you will be able to regain access to your files. 3. Do notify your IT department Right Away if you suspect your computer has been compromised. 4. Do use reputable antivirus software and a firewall. Maintaining a strong firewall and keeping your security software up to date are critical. 5. Do employ content scanning and filtering on your mail servers. 6. Do make sure that all systems and software are up-to- date with relevant patches. Regular patching of vulnerable software is necessary to help prevent infection. 7. Do alert your IT department beforehand, if traveling. Make sure you use a trustworthy Virtual Private Network (VPN) when accessing public Wi-Fi. 6 3.
