Smartups offer an new model fast growth model ● Smartups can grow via tapping into services with the highest walletshare and therefore higher ARPU/CLV potential ● Unit costs can be higher and the user base smaller for similar level ROI as with traditional web and mobile apps, such as entertainment and telecommunications services ● Also local variations and customisations are possible due to high ARPU/CLV expectations, which entails end of silicon valley dominance in ventures. ● However, per unit production costs likely to remain slightly higher due to dealing with physical delivery of services in many cases related to housing, transportation and food. 13. elokuuta 14
  13. 13. Defining smartups - hit the Root Cause! Smartups free users from natural resource dependency by creating new experiences connected to new ways of fulfilling the needs. Smartups work on the root-cause of the natural resource dependency, i.e. providing for human needs. Smartups work by replacing the resource intensive ways of fulfilling human needs (for shelter, food, transportation, etc) with a radically less intensive way by offering more user value. 13. elokuuta 14
  14. 14. Defining smartups - offer better experience Savings are not enough. Smartups do not just offer marginal savings out of efficiency, but also increase the perception of user value. For example Airbnb is not just using homes more efficienly, but also provides a new in many ways more compelling and often even cheaper experience than an ordinary hotel. Über offer more convenience and availability (with dynamic pricing). QuickSense offers healthier offices, not just savings in energy bill. 13. elokuuta 14
  15. 15. Defining smartups - disrupt entire value chains! Smartups disrupt industries and value chains by creating digital services that replace old. Thus smartups disrupt entire value chains / networks not just industries. -> Über is not just disrupting taxi-services, but also the automotive industry. -> Airbnb doesn’t just eat hospitality industry’s pie, but also property and construction industry are under threat from disruption. 13. elokuuta 14
