ABOUT COMPANY <ul><li>GlaxoSmithKline plc often abbreviated to GSK, is a global pharmaceutical, biologics, vaccines and consumer healthcare company headquartered in London, United Kingdom. </li></ul><ul><li>It is the world's third largest pharmaceutical company measured by revenues (after Johnson & Johnson and Pfizer) </li></ul><ul><li>GSK was formed in 2000 by the merger of GlaxoWellcome plc , and SmithKline Beecham plc . </li></ul>

CSR <ul><li>The company is involved in various development initiatives all over the globe. </li></ul><ul><li>In India, the company has been committed to social and health related activities since 1977. </li></ul><ul><li>The company has initiated various development programmes by building effective partnerships with local NGOs, governments and communities. </li></ul><ul><li>These initiatives are implemented through coordinated projects on urban community development, rural development, disaster relief, workplace initiatives and medical initiatives. </li></ul>

RURAL INITIATIVE <ul><li>GSK India undertakes a number of Rural Development initiatives through its trust GRAMIN AAROGYA VIKAS SANSTHA (GAVS), a Rural Health Development Organization. </li></ul><ul><li>GAVS is a registered public charitable trust established and promoted by the heritage company Glaxo India in April 1997. </li></ul>

GAVS field action programs included <ul><li>Medical check-up and treatment offered at Trust’s Mobile Van. </li></ul><ul><li>Ongoing Health camps and Health awareness programs. </li></ul><ul><li>Vocational Training activities for employment generation at the local level. </li></ul><ul><li>Health awareness programmes using audio-visuals. </li></ul><ul><li>Innovative programs that accurately address a current issue or Health related need. </li></ul><ul><li>  </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>GAVS works in 15 predominantly villages in Peth Taluka, Nashik District. As a part of its Rural Tribal Development mission, GSK collected primary data from 92 villages around Nashik in the year 2005, to identify the most under served village communities which needs support. </li></ul><ul><li>Mobile Clinic covers a distance of 160 kms each day and visits a cluster of five villages in rotation, covering all 15 villages. A qualified medical practitioner along with two healthcare workers visits the villages five days a week. </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>Educational centers </li></ul><ul><li>GAVS also operates a Balwadi (pre-school) for under five year age group children of rag-pickers community in a slum pocket called Amrapali in Nashik. Besides inculcating good civic norms, these techniques train and educate their minds with impact. </li></ul>
  8. 8. <ul><li>GAVS have also launched three Vocational Training Centers in Peth Taluka. The centres were launched in the beginning of 2008 in collaboration with Mumbai based partner organization, Kherwadi Social Welfare Association. </li></ul><ul><li>Over 700 youths have been trained and a number of them are currently gainfully employed. </li></ul><ul><li>The project is undertaken with a long term objective of imparting specialized skills and making the unemployed youths more employable in the areas of computer literacy, tailoring, beauty training, wireman/ electrician training, increased agriculture productivity, Motor training, nursing assistance training etc. </li></ul><ul><li>Vocational Training Centres </li></ul>
  9. 9. <ul><li>Shelter home for children - Behraich, Uttar Pradesh </li></ul><ul><li>In 2008, GSK India in collaboration with Pratham, a Non Government Organization, started a Shelter home for children under the age of 16. </li></ul><ul><li>This Shelter home is located in the eastern part of India at Behraich, Lucknow, which is one of the highest child sending regions in the country. The project aims at prevention of children migrating to bigger cities in need of work and falling prey to child labor and anti social elements. </li></ul>
  10. 10. <ul><li>Mid-day Meal project : </li></ul><ul><li>GSK Pharma has been supporting the Mid-day meal program for Municipal school students from the year 2005. </li></ul><ul><li>Nanhi Kali – A program for education of the girl child in Kanker district, Chattisgarh </li></ul>
