  2. 2. Deb Harrison opened Pogostick Studio in 2009 after a 20 year career in retail advertising where she worked with such companies as Mervyn’s, Macy’s and The Gap as a Graphic Art Director and Photo Art Director. Although her focus is graphic design, she continues to freelance occasionally as a Photo Art Director for Gap Inc. and TravelSmith. Deb takes great pleasure in working with clients to develop and design brand identity materials, print and promotional materials, and other communication graphics including logos, web mock-ups, mailers, books, posters, illustrations and more. Each project brings new opportunities for solving design challenges and creating graphic solutions to help clients keep their design projects and brand messages clear and concise, on time and on budget. In her free time, Deb is an avid reader, and art enthusiast, volunteering with several art organizations. She enjoys cooking authentic recipes from the world’s cuisines. She loves jazz, going to concerts, and doing anything with her husband and 3 kids.

What is it...? The HOP is convenient, affordable transportation by bus or cab provided for senior citizens and people with disabilities unable to use public transportation. Sponsored by Measure B Detachandkeephandyforquickreference The City of Hayward hired Pogostick Studio to create branding for its Paratransit program which provides transportation for those unable to take public transportation. The purpose of the campaign is to increase awareness of the program as well as ridership. The branding had to be highly legible in every aspect to be readable to the elderly and those with disabilities. It also head to clearly communicate who the program is intended for so as not to attract the wrong clientele. The project included branding consultation with the naming and ridership committees, developing the logo, graphics and taglines, applying the logo to 3 paratransit buses and taxis as well as producing print materials such as posters, mailers and a new riders guide. The first phase will complete roll-out by the beginning of 2016. The next phases will include developing ‘swag’, The Hop Stop signage and possibly a HOP App.
  4. 4. An early assignment for Pogostick Studio was to develop a logo, graphics, posters and invites for an exhibit honoring the life and work of the late Corita Kent: radical nun, activist and teacher. This was an opportunity to create a custom typeface used in the word ‘Celebration’. The opening gala was an enormous success, and exposed a new generation of artists to Corita’s visionary work.
  5. 5. In 2010, Pogostick Studio was chosen by the Hayward Area Historical Society to create a new logo and branding in anticipation of the opening of the new Hayward Area Historical Society’s Center for History and Culture. The new branding would roll out in 2012 at HAHS’ History Awards Gala. The goals for the new logo were to include the HAHS acronym, reflect the area’s broad diversity, nod to it’s agricultural history and be serious yet fun. Several options were submitted including various versions of those right center. The window frame design was chosen for it’s timeless yet modern feel, upbeat color scheme and the potential to use the ‘Window into History’ and structural grids as graphic motifs throughout HAHS branding. The successful rebranding has been well received by the Community and helped to update and improve the Historical Society’s image and visibility. Pogostick Studio has been retained by the Historical Society since the rebranding and produces 90% of their print and promotional materials including the newsletter, event mailers and invitations and event graphics. Graphics: pogostickstudio.com Pogostick Studio developed the logo, and branding for a San Francisco theater company, Three Girls Theatre, whose mission it is to keep ‘Women’s work on stage...where it belongs’! The client wanted a ‘feminine, quasi- punk look’ to help convey the power, fun and feminism embodied in their works. Deb creates the graphics for the annual New Works Festival - banners, posters, invitations, etc., as well as for individual productions.
  8. 8. The hand stamped fabrics and custom home furnishings of San Francisco stylist Jennifer Telford required a personal and artistic touch. Jennifer’s standard poodle, Emmy, filled with one of Jennifers colorful textile works, became the logo and the inspiration for the customizable illustrations used to brand Jennifer’s stationery, fabric care labels and Etsy store banner. When Jennifer handed out her new cards to her fabric vendors, they liked them so much they asked for extras to give their customers, resulting in several new clients for Jennifer.
  9. 9. Summer 2014 DIAMONDS Fall 2015 TRAC 2015THE REPRESENTATIONAL ART CONFERENCE MVCnow! is the quarterly newsletter for the Museum of Ventura County. Pogostick Studio was hired in 2012 to rebrand the newsletter, including a redesign of the masthead and completely revamped formatting. The broadsheet format allows for dramatic presentations of the art events and collections featured at the museum. The museum was thrilled with the new look and received many compliments from museum members and visitors. Deb also creates graphics and print materials for many of the museum’s special events and programs. SUNKIST MURALS NOW ON VIEW AT THE AGRICULTURE MUSEUM Two historic and monumental paintings which had adorned the Fruit Growers Exchange (also known as the Sunkist Building) in downtown Los Angeles are on loan for visitors to enjoy at the Museum of Ventura County’s Agriculture Museum. The two paintings, commissioned in the early 1930s by the Sunkist Growers were painted by muralist Frank Bowers (1905-1964) and commercial artist Arthur Prunier (1905-1973). This colorful pair of paintings, each of which measures 133 x 103 inches, were visible in down- town Los Angeles from 1935 until 1970; when the Fruit Growers Exchange relocated to Sherman Oaks. The building was subsequently demolished, and the paintings were stored by Sunkist.
  10. 10. Distilling the character of a company or product into a single image plus typography is a complex challenge, but that said, Logos are one of Deb’s favorite types of projects. In addition to all of the logos on the previous pages, here is a sampling of logos designed by Pogostick Studio. The Palo Alto History Museum logo is in concept stage.
  11. 11. As an Art Director in Retail Advertising, Deb gained years of experience in both graphic design and production as well as photo direction and production. 12. 12. Illustration is Deb’s first love. She started her career doing fashion illustrations for retailers in the Denver area. And while she prefers the creative problem solving of graphic design, there is an illustrative aspect to much of her work, and the occasional illustration project is a welcome change of pace. Here is a small sampling of the various styles of illustration Deb has used in various projects. You can see more of Deb’s illustrations at pogostickstudio.com.
