INFLUENCE: Leading people for their own benefit and the
benefit of the group.
MANIPULATION: Leading people for the benefit of the
leader.

1. Example first
2. Genuine concern
3. Investing in their lives
4. Giving of your time
5. Sharing the limelight
Leadership is most effect when using
the SERVANT model.
Servant: Meeting the needs of others.
Leadership: Influence.
Servant Leadership, therefore, is leadership that meets the
needs of other people by influencing them for their
own best interest.
8Traits of Servant Leadership.
1. Focuses on the needs of others NOT the likes of the leader.
2. Secure enough in their position to INVEST trust in others.
3. Does what others are NOT WILLING to do.
4. Focus on PEOPLE not just goals.
5. Allows others to take the PEDESTAL.
6. Takes time to know PEOPLE.
7. Understands giving ENCOURAGEMENT & EDIFICATION.
8. Sees the needs to DEVELOP people not just generate profits.
Difference between leaders &
managers:
Leaders:
• Focus on people
• See the big picture
• Have a long-term strategy
• Think outside the box
• Emphasize intangibles
• Rely on intuition
• Invest trust in others
• See themselves as change
agents
Managers:
• Focus on procedures
• See only details
• Live in the moment
• Maintain status quo
• Are pragmatic
• Rely on facts
• Do it themselves
• See themselves as stability

2. Attitude determines atmosphere.
3. Values determines decisions.
4. Investment determines return.
