A hobby is an activity or interest that is pursued outside of one's regular work and is mostly pursued for pleasure.
Stamp collecting, chat rooms, railroads, softball, scrapbooking, golf, reading, painting, tap dancing, yard work, crafts, auto mechanics, music,
garage sales, sewing, fishing, cooking, boating, furniture refinishing, javelin tossing, and a variety of other activities or pastimes all necessitate a
certain amount of balance.
We need to make sure we have a balanced approach to managing our family life and any extracurricular activities we might enjoy.
When you have too much of a good thing, it can be detrimental. Everyone should have a personal outlet as well as a favorite hobby.
To some extent, self-indulgence is beneficial.
It's good to get away from the daily grind and devote some time to a particular passion or emphasis.
If you only go to work or school and have no outside activities, whether you're a father, mother, husband, wife, boyfriend, girlfriend, son,
daughter, brother, or sister, you're not the friendliest person to be around.
If, on the other hand, you immerse yourself in your interest to the point that it appears to others that your pastime is all you care about or want
to do all day, you're most certainly setting yourself up for plenty of negative feedback.
Hobbies are intended to be a healthy release for stress, not something that consumes all aspects of your life.
Hobbies can also be expensive. Snowmobiles, ATV’s, motorcycles, and ski equipment (water or snow) are all very expensive.
Unfortunately, even those seemingly low-cost hobbies, however, can quickly add up.
It's time to reassess your passion if it's causing more harm than good, if it's eating more of your family's finances and time than you can or
should.
This may be your two options: (1) give up or vastly modify what you've been doing for the benefit of your family, or (2) divert your attention to a
hobby that you can devote less time to but also make money from.
You might be pleasantly surprised to learn that almost any hobby or interest can be transformed into a profitable business with cheap overhead
and low start-up costs.

2. You're also not compelled to offer a particular product! In fact, you may sell your knowledge as a service.
If you've been doing your activity on a regular basis for a long time, you're probably fairly knowledgeable about it.
If you make wooden toys for your kids and friends kids, for example, you're probably familiar with where to get the best tools & supplies and
maybe have more woodworking knowledge and skills than you realize.
Perhaps you have a collection of woodworking books, journals or a website that you turn to for ideas on a regular basis.
When you sit back and think about it, you have firsthand experience with what was required to get started in your woodworking hobby, even
though you may only be making wooden toys.
Someone who is new to woodworking and wants to get into it on a regular basis must first figure out what they will need to get started and
they experience you have might come in handy for them.
You might be able to sell your experiences/information as a service.
If you've ever used a search engine to hunt for information, you know how time-consuming it is to sift through all of the results to locate
exactly what you need.
You're often given a lot of information that doesn't appear to be very reliable, and you have to figure out what you can use and what you
should avoid!
When you turn your personal enjoyment of a passion into a product/service to offer, you're assisting anyone looking for that information
without having to spend hours looking for it!
You just need to set some rules about how many hours per week you spend doing it.
