  • The world is changing. Technology is revolutionizing almost every aspect of our lives. Behind the technology revolution you’ll find networks and behind the networks, you’ll find people. The only thing holding us back is knowledge. Power of the Network. Now. [Demo technology? Show them the power of the network right here!]
  • Every network has a team of people who plan, build, maintain, and expand it. Whether you are interested in managing switches and routers, cabling and physical plant, system design and setup, security, programming, or troubleshooting computers, the Cisco Networking Academy Program can help you. Businesses, governments, and educational institutions are looking to hire IT professionals who have mastery of these skills. Academy courses prepare you for a variety of industry-recognized certifications that are proof to potential employers of your mastery.
  • The program uses a blended learning model. Each Academy integrates high quality face-to-face teaching with hands-on lab exercises. Cisco provides multi-media delivery of challenging curricula and embedded assessment over the Internet. It successfully prepares graduates for networking and IT related jobs in the public and private sectors, as well as for higher education in engineering, computer science, and related fields.
  • Students in the Academy program learn from curriculum delivered through the Global Learning Network. Unlike a text book, the curriculum is updated regularly with the latest technology and improvements. Students with different learning styles have access to several modes of explanation. Students receive feedback through comprehensive assessments where they apply their skills. They discover what they’ve learned and what they need to review. The Academy program also has a significant hands-on component where students apply what they learn. They build and troubleshoot real networks with access to Cisco Trained Instructors as needed. Encourages teamwork and enhances problem solving abilities. Students graduate from the program with a marketable skill that has been tested and evaluated prior to their first day on the job. CertCities ranked the Cisco Academy Networking Program best overall certification program in August 2002.
  • [UPDATE COURSE CATALOGUE http://cisco.netacad.net/public/academy/catalog/index.html] This current course list shows the breadth of the Academy curriculum available covering a wide range of networking and IT skills. Each of these semester-length courses prepare students for practical IT careers and education: Founded on sound pedagogy and proven educational practices Prepares students for industry certification: CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA's A+ certification, Sun Certified Programmer for JavaTM 2 Platform, etc. Designed for several career paths: network specialists, computing hardware and software specialists, programmers, advanced degrees, etc. Students also develop 21 st Century skills: Improve math, science, writing, and problem-solving skills, work productively with others.
  • The Cisco Networking Academy Program prepares you for many different career paths in the IT sector. [Rather than read the text on the slide, describe local businesses and careers that graduates pursue in your area. Try to come up with a local example for each area. In the US add: Web Development: Web Designer, Web Developer, Web Administrator, Webmaster, E-Commerce Manager and Web Consultant
  • There are other technology training programs, but only the Cisco Networking Academy Program offers access to the Career Connection. This worldwide, online resource for students and graduates connects you to opportunities through job placement, internships, and career development services. Public and private organizations work with their Local Academies to provide job experience opportunities for students and graduates. Career Connection programs provide real-world experience during the program in connection with your Academy site. Alumni use the Career Connection to keep knowledge and skills updated
  • The Cisco Networking Academy Program is making a difference in the lives of men and women. [Share these stories or tell a compelling story about one of your own students.] (From upper left, going clockwise): Carlos Fraga, married father of 2 girls, attended the full-time 6 month Academy at Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) in New York City. Now a network manager in New York City. Karvika Thapa of Nepal attended a Cisco Networking Academy at the Kathmandu College of Management to become a systems analyst to help her country. These Indians in Columbia had to walk down the mountain to attend their Academy. Guerilla fighting interrupted their attendance for a while, but their government was able to re-establish the Academy, so that these students could work toward improving their village near Santa Marta. Bottom left: Beth Murora worked for the Women’s Commission in Rwanda and believed that she needed to learn more about Information Communications to best improve the lives of women in her country. While attending the 6 month residential Academy in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, sponsored by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA), Beth gave birth to twin daughters. Her mother-in-law came to support her so that she could finish her courses at the Academy before returning to her job in Rwanda. Kasey Coleman is a junior at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the U.S. pursuing biomedical technology. Taking 1 semester at the Academy in her high school as a senior helped her understand the impact of technology on the medical field. This is the first graduating class of the UNECA Academy in Ethiopia. http://ss-leads.netacad-survey.com/ -- submit your own successes so that we can showcase them on the Academy Connection, in Executive presentations, in collateral….
