1. In Year-End Awards, Three Firms Shine for Financial Literacy Resources
In Corporate Insight’s annual Mutual Fund Monitor Awards, we recently recognized American Funds, Fidelity and
Vanguard for having the top financial education resources in the industry. Leaders in the mutual fund space offer
well-written investing tips, portfolio guidance, tools and calculators as well as identify best practices across a wide
variety of topics from college savings to retirement. We favored firms that create engaging material targeted for
separate audiences based on their investing knowledge levels. Educational resources include a variety of formats
such as articles, PDFs, courses, seminars, webinars, infographics, videos and HTML pages. Below, we offer a preview
of the Gold, Silver and Bronze medal winners in the Financial Education category of our Awards report:
American Funds leads the coverage group by offering a robust collection of educational resources spanning a wide
range of topics from investor guidance and college savings to retirement planning. The firm houses all of its
educational material in a centralized tab. American Funds notably organizes educational materials into seven
distinct categories including related tools and calculators. The firm’s retirement section includes helpful asset
allocation models. Material come in a variety of formats such as PDFs, HTML articles and FAQs.

resources that cover an extensive range of personal finance topics for three distinct audiences: beginner,
intermediate and advanced. Fidelity stands out for its variety of media formats that include comprehensive self-
paced courses, seminars, infographics, videos, articles, and webinars.

Lastly, Vanguard was awarded the bronze medal for its collection of well-written educational resources. The firm
stands out for offering an extensive range of topics for novice investors that includes basic principles related to
investment strategies, trading, financial planning and portfolio diversification. Notably, Vanguard’s Principles for
Investing Success series provides a framework for goal setting, maintaining balance and reducing costs. Featured
articles include interactive charts and graphs. For example, the Minimize Cost module allow investors to manually
adjust returns and expense ratios to compare gains and losses.
