Everything before informs everything after → Health care: learning to observe → University of Minnesota: learning to use rhetoric → IBM: learning to use structure, systems, and process → Medtronic: learning to appreciate the importance of specifics → Kroll Ontrack: learning to survive a challenge and take a big risk

  6. 6. Wins → Building a culture where information is part of the experience → Expanding the team with researchers, developers, and designers → Sharing skills and learn from each other
  7. 7. Frustrations → Adopting new ways of thinking → Staying focused on providing great docs → What is our “team” in this new world

Hopes → Everyone who delivers information are all telling the same story → Information is thought about in every way it impacts anyone who is using, or wants to use, our products and beyond → We combine deign, research, data analytics, and great technical writing → We deliver amazing information experiences in exactly the right place, time, and manner

  10. 10. Change is hard, not impossible → We stay stuck in patterns → It’s not broken, why are we fixing it? → I don’t think I can do that → Staged change so people can adjust → Constantly show the value of change → Enhance existing skills Resistance Motivation Give everyone some

  15. 15. Connect, integrate, develop → We connect with our plugin vendors to get their help building solutions → We integrate with tools which will help us measure and understand → We develop some of our own custom solutions

  17. 17. It’s not just a fancy title Gathering data Setting direction Measuring results Connecting storiesWriting for platforms Working like designers
  18. 18. IX teams Marketing teams Product teams Design teams Working with every other team to create a great IX Engineering teams
  19. 19. Most of us are writers
  20. 20. Even when we’re not thinking or acting like writers Data Scientist Designer Support Engineer Content Strategist Product manager
  21. 21. Information is critical to the user experience. The information experience includes everything needed to understand, support, market, and use that product.
