Texture art
Texture art is the design of a surface, example the skin and appearance of a character or an object,
usually in 2D form and rarely in 3D which may be overlaid on a polygon to create a 3D model.
Pixel art
Pixel art is a form of digital art, the use of raster graphics software, where the images are edited on
the pixel level.
Concept art
Concept art is a form of illustration; the main goal is to draw out an idea to then use in a video game,
which is also called visual development. Concept art isn’t only used within the game industry, but
also in fashion, set design and architecture. A concept artist can be given the task of designing an
item, character or weapon, they then sketch down numerous ideas of the same object with different
designs every time. Once the development stages are complete, they can be given the task of
designing a piece of artwork for advertisement purposes.
Background Graphics
The background image in any game is to set a mood or a scene, you cannot interact with the
background image, it’s just there to look at and to give a certain feel to the game; example on street
fighter in an important fight you could be fighting in a large arena with a crowd.
Print Media Art
video game companies spend a lot of money and time producing advertising for their games, in
order for people to spend money on their game, the kinds of advertising methods are; TV, art,
gameplay etc…
Example is in this commercial for Street Fighter IV, they have used gameplay of many different
characters fighting and using their unique attacks, to give an enjoying and exciting advertisement for
the game.
For the front cover of games the companies try and use an image that’ll catch the eye of someone
and also use certain colours and text for people notice it as they walk or look at it, on the street
fighter cover it is an image of Ryu and Ken fighting.
