  1. 1. ‘Democratic National Convention Keynote Address’
  2. 2. This Presentation is based on Barbara Charline Jordan speech.
  3. 3. This great woman was born on February 21, 1936 and died on January 17, 1996. Barbara Jordan was a lawyer, educator, an American politician, and a leader of the Civil Rights Movement. A Democrat, she was the first African American elected to the Texas Senate after Reconstruction, also she was the first Southern African- American woman elected to the United States House of Representatives. This woman has made a lot for America and it’s nation.
  4. 4. Barbara’s aim was not to enumerate the problems which existed in America, but to see what we should do know to have a prosperous future. Barbara said: “We believe that the people are the source of all governmental power; that the authority of the people is to be extended, not restricted”. I think, that this words are very powerful. They make the nation realize that their future is in their hands. We are creators in this case.
  5. 5. People Then she has added: “We believe that the government which represents the authority of all the people, not just one interest group, but all the people, has an obligation to actively underscore actively seek to remove those obstacles which would block individual achievement obstacles emanating from race, sex, economic condition. The government must remove them, seek to remove them.” The power of the country are people who live in it.
  6. 6. Changes The second thing which Barbara has admitted was: “We do not reject our traditions, but we are willing to adapt to changing circumstances, when change we must”. No development is possible without changes. In case we are willing to change our future, we have to be ready to face all difficulties, everything what we didn’t accustom to.
  7. 7. Barbara Jordan’s speech is very inspiring. She says basis which every nation has to know and government too. There is nothing like people and territories with government, but there is a country which includes all this. We all are united.
