Journal Writing-1
-Krishnamurti, India
(From Krishnamurti’s Journal 1992, Krishnamurti Foundation, India)
Krishnamurti is known as one of the greatest thinkers
and religious teacherof all time. In his journal of23rd
April
1975, he opined that man has made himself prisoner of
truths that he himself has created.
He describes clearpicturesofnatural world such asthe
existence of all creatures from birds, trees to water that
surroundshim. Accordingto him, theearly morningsetting
is a perfect moment for meditation. In this moment human
being can achieve nothingness than knowledge. Then he
explains ‘becoming’ and ‘nothingness’ as two different
concepts.
Human beings have corrupted, spoiled and failed to
understandthetrueessence life because they has embraced
becoming, achieving, and gaining material prosperity in
life. In becoming, our mind and thought is controlled by
human made culture, tradition, religion, time etc. What we
considertruthis in fact ourown constructionandinvention.
However, truth exists therewhich is never invented. The so
called truth is just the reflection of our unstable thought
which we have nurturedand cultivated from thebeginning.
So, human beings life has become meaningless and
unhappy.
On the other hand, nothingness is not reality but it is a
truth. In nothingness, there is absolutestability and clarity.
Nothingness is a realm of completefreedom from thought,
time, knowledge, becoming and everything that we
accepted as truth. In order to understand truth, we have to
experience nothingness.
Similarly, in his journal of 24th
April 1975, he shows
how human beings consider themselves superior to other
creatures of the same world. Human beings have become
too insensitive and indifferent to the life of other creatures
because of their desire for material success. The time
bound consciousness and thought makes our life full of
conflicts and struggles which can be freed through regular
meditation.
Thought is born of experience and knowledge, which
are inseparable from time and past. Time is the
psychological enemy of human beings. Therefore, we need
timeless insight and total negation to get the essence of
positive. While there is negation of all those things that
thought has brought about psychologically, only there is
love, which is compassion and intelligence.
