  2. 2. WARNING<br />Back up all data before you beguine.<br />Discharge static electricity by touching a metal surface.<br />
  3. 3. Required Tools<br />Clean, soft, lint-free cloth.<br />Coin.<br />Phillips #1 screwdriver.<br />Stiff, plastic, nonmagnetic card (such as a library card)<br />
  4. 4. Opening the Computer<br />Shut down the computer.<br />Wait 30 minutes for the computer to cool down.<br />Unplug all external cables from the computer.<br />Turn the computer over and place it on a soft cloth.<br />Use a coin to release the battery latch. Turn the quarter clockwise to unlock the battery.<br />

  7. 7. Removing the Hard Drive<br />Loosen—but do not try to remove—the three captive screws along the RAM door.<br />
  8. 8. Removing the Hard Drive 2<br />Holding the long end of the L-shaped RAM door, pivot it out from the battery bay.<br /> If necessary, use a library card to tilt the RAM door up.<br />Be careful not to bend the RAM door.<br />
  9. 9. Removing the Hard Drive 3<br />Unroll the hard drive pull tab.<br />

Replacing the Hard Drive<br />Slide in the replacement hard drive, tuck the pull tab underneath the drive.<br />Install the RAM door by first aligning the short end at the notch near the hard drive opening.<br />Tuck in the EMI gaskets located on the RAM door <br />Make sure the three screws align with the holes in the bottom case before tightening them.<br />
  13. 13. Closing the Computer<br />Replace the battery . <br />Press and hold down the other end of the battery as you turn the coin to lock it into place.<br />
  14. 14. Installing OS X<br />Now your computer is ready to install the operating system.<br />Put the OS X disk and follow the on screen instructions.<br />
