Who We are.
David Sonka
I offer 15 years of experience in the landscape industry, and bring a high level of passion, graphic artistry, and service to each client with design skills that have earned recognition from MNLA and PLANET.
I have a degree in landscape architecture from Iowa State University, am MNLA-certified, and volunteer for the MNLA Landscape Design Committee.
I pride myself in creating dynamic, custom landscape designs using CAD, 3D modeling, imaging, and hand-drawn graphics that bring the designs to life. 7. 7. Bringing your ideas to life.
8. 8. HAND-DRAWN GRAPHICS
Getting to the essence…
9. 9. Hand-drawn graphics applied to Landscape Architecture studies at Iowa State University.
10. 10. Hand-Drawn Graphics make it possible to articulate design ideas, quick, simple, and loose…
11. 11. Hand-drawn graphics are still a VERY EFFECTIVE way to illustrate ideas…
12. 12. They can help you articulate the “big idea” without getting too detailed…
13. 13. They can help you illustrate concepts and revisions, without much time and labor…
14. 14. They can fill in the details of the plan and show features of a complex plan…
15. 15. …They can allow you to get right into the ESSENCE OF THE DESIGN…
16. 16. They can help work quickly through construction details with the client and crew.
17. 17. …And be flexible in the design process in order to explore ideas and concepts.
18. 18. PLAN DRAWING & SPACE COMPOSITION
“one-dimensional” design plans for layout
19. 19. Whether hand-drawn black & white plans, rendered plans, or CAD drawings…
20. 20. SPATIAL DESIGN using visual composition and the principles of design is the foundation.
21. 21. It orchestrates the flow and the melody of the design composition…
22. 22. It creates rhythm and harmony in the design…
23. 23. It sets the tone…
24. 24. It creates the mood…
25. 25. Landscape plans articulate the design, but are “one-dimensional” & can’t always explain it.
26. 26. Sometimes they require you to explain all the details, with words or illustrative graphics.
27. 27. We now have the capability of drawing and illustrating all of the details.
28. 28. PHOTO-IMAGE EDITING
A way to bring color and 2-D!
29. 29. Photo-Image Editing is a way to illustrate photographic versions of the design...
30. 30. …It can be versatile and effective ways to illustrate design ideas…
31. 31. …It can be useful tools can in showing your vision, in both DAY and NIGHT.
32. 32. BEFORE…
33. 33. DAY-TIME…
34. 34. NIGHT-TIME…
35. 35. BEFORE…
37. 37. NIGHT-TIME…
38. 38. You can plan your landscape…
39. 39. …and the theatrical setting that can showcase it. …
40. 40. We believe that designs need to be articulated and explained to the client…
41. 41. Landscape Plans can not always show the strength of the design, like image-editing.
42. 42. Image-editing can make what would otherwise be IMPOSSIBLE to visualize…
43. 43. …POSSIBLE to visualize.
44. 44. Designs can be illustrated, to take them from black and white and put into rich, BOLD color.
45. 45. From Before,
Through the Design,
Until Completion.
