This document discusses the changing roles of archivists and information managers in light of digital records and electronic information management. As organizations flatten hierarchies and outsource functions, electronic records have become more decentralized and complex to manage. International standards are being developed to ensure the long-term preservation and accessibility of public electronic records. Proper training is needed for information professionals to develop the interdisciplinary skills required to manage digital archives and records systems, which are crucial for transparency, accountability and access to information. Barriers between archivists, records managers, and other specialists must be broken down to ensure effective electronic records management.
