Design for change - A report ACTIVITY CONDUCTED AT BLUE BELLS PUBLIC SCHOOL SECTOR 10 GURGAONSTUDENT MEMBERS: DEEPTI, BHAVYA, ,SAKSHI, KOMAL AND ARMAAN TEAM MEMBERS: MS. DIVYA, MS. JAYA, MR.BRAHAM, MS. ARVINDER AND MR. SONU TEACHER IN CHARGE: MS. DEBRANI
How we began …..To begin the activity we visitedsome places near our school andinvited the children fromunderprivileged background to visitour school for a week. They weretold that this would be a week offun, activity, interaction andgames.
OUR AIM …………Our aim was to spread1. The awareness of education andits importance in a play waymethod. (For the underprivilegedchildren called the Ujala group)2. The awareness of our societyand how we can help to better it.(For our students).
The children participating in the activity formed a team of five . Their activity was to interact with the UJALA children who come from underprivileged background .We are all alike, aliveand a part of thissociety. We care for all.
The Blue Bells team undertookmany activities like teaching theUjala children to meditate, colour,read, play, sing and dance. Let’s make a circle.Copy my steps
DAY 1 [October 5TH 2011]Both the groups of children afterthe initial ice breaking activity gotalong very well. Bhavya of the BlueBells team taught meditation. Thechildren sat in neat rows andfollowed the instructions to the “T”.
The outcome was a wonderfulsession of meditation. The activitycontinued for half an hour to fortyminutes. After the session thestudents felt energised and therewas a sense of well being.
DAY 2 [Oct 7th 2011]The team taught the children to readfor better understanding. The teammembers Komal and Sakshi did agreat job. The younger ones of theUjala group needed more guidancebut the older ones were quick tograsp the learning strategies andapply them.
Hindi ,English ,Maths and GeneralKnowledge were few of the topicstouched. Craft work was also done andgreatly appreciated. Some of the Ujalamembers did a commendable job.
Day 3[ Oct 11th ]The team and the Ujala children spenttime colouring the sheets provided by theschool .The ability to colour and use thecolour schemes produced a scintillatingrainbow effect .
Most of the children used vibrantcolours and the outcome wasmeticulously done great pieces ofart. FOLD THE PAPER….
Day 4 [Oct 12th ,2011] The team gave the Ujala children greeting cards. The children weredelighted with this gesture. The BlueBells team on their part had gone to each class of the primary wing andasked the students to participate inthe activity by making a card for the Ujala children .
The response to the teammembers’ appeal was terrific. Therewas a lot of revelry and happiness. HAPPY DIWALI ! SPREAD THE CHEER.
DAY 5 [ Oct 13 ,2011] Dancing is an expression of joy. To give expression to this joy the Ujala students learnt to dance Indian and Contemporary dances from the Blue Bells team members. They were helped by Mr. Braham and Mr. SonuYOU LOOK NICEWHEN YOU STANDSTRAIGHT
Our Teacher leaders took it to thehighest level when they taught thechildren how to change these simpleheartfelt steps to a piece of artistry.All the participants participated in itwholeheartedly and that too with anamazing grace. It was a happy blendof song and dance.
Day 6 [Oct 14 ,2011] The last day of the activity was a fun and frolic day. Everyone participated in sporting eventslike running, frog jump, lemon and spoon race . The Ujala students were divided into teams according to their age. OUR GANG OF HAPPY CHILDREN
The younger children did the frogjump race. The little ones did theirbest to be the fastest frog! All thiswas very entertaining for theonlookers. The older girls had thelemon and spoon race while theboys had relay race.
