• The Cardioplegia Cannulas are used to
deliver cardioplegic solution to the
entire myocardium of heart which
results in Asystole.

Types of Cardioplegia Cannula :
1.Retrograde Cardioplegia
2.Antegrade Cardioplegia
• Aortic Root Cannula
• Coronary Perfusion Cannula

RETROGRADE CARDIOPLEGIA
• It is the most common technique used to deliver cardioplegia to the heart
via the Coronary Sinus in the reverse direction of normal blood flow
(retrograde Perfusion)
• Cannula is placed into the coronary sinus via right atrium

• Antegrade Cardioplegia was designed to deliver
cardioplegia solution in the aortic root or directly into
the coronary ostia in the normal direction of blood
flow (Antegrade Perfusion)

AORTIC ROOT CANNULA
• Aortic root cannula used to infuse cardioplegia directly
into the aortic root near the aortic valve
• It has short needle tip that is placed into the aorta
• The aortic valve and Aortic cross clamp prevents the
back flow in either direction.

CORONARY PERFUSION
CANNULA
• This Cannulas are placed in the coronary ostia which delivers
cardioplegia directly into the coronary ostia
• These Cannulas come in various sizes and in different
configurations
• These Cannulas are used when the aortic root is opened ,
• Example : Aortic Valve Replacement
