Genetically modified organism

 1. 1. GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISM
PREPARED BY;
DARWIN S.CAMA
BSED 1-C
2. 2. INTRODUCTION;
GMO are genetically modified organisms that have been created using new techniques of recombinant DNA technology. However, the term is misleading because almost all domesticated animals and crop plants have been genetically modified over thousands of years by human selection and cross-breeding. GMO are viewed with concern because of public debate over the safety of the products and the fear that GMO foods represent a type of "biological" pollution. The battle has been particularly intense in Europe, where GMO have been banned since 1998.
A genetically modified organism (GMO) or genetically engineered organism (GEO) is an organism whose genetic material has been altered using genetic engineering techniques. These techniques, generally known as recombinant DNA technology, use DNA molecules from different sources, which are combined into one molecule to create a new set of genes. This DNA is then transferred into an organism, giving it modified or novel genes. Transgenic organisms, a subset of GMOs, are organisms which have inserted DNA that originated in a different species.
3. 3. PROVE;
Reason Why GMO is DISADVANTAGES;
Harm to other organisms. For example genes and their effect included in a crop may turn out to be poisonous to insects (monarch butterfly poisoned by GMO corns
Cross-pollination with traditional, organic plants. Cross pollination can occur at quite large distances. New genes may also be included in the offspring of the traditional, organic crops miles away. This makes it difficult to distinguish which crop field is organic, and which is not, posing a problem to the proper labeling of non-GMO food products.
Spread of new, more resistant "super weeds
Spread of new, more resistant "super pests".
Major trading countries that obtain most of the benefit from the production and trade of genetically modified crops. This might cause more geopolitical conflicts.
New trade, tariff and quota issues may arise between countries, regions.
Critics say GMOs may cause health problems.
As the USA is the biggest producer of GMO crops, their exports may rouse more anti-American feeling, due to “Americanization” worldwide.
Possible damages to the environment.
4. 4. Possible greed of GMO manufacturing firms.
Unharmonized test - and safety standards around the world.
GMOs are made because it is possible to make them, not because consumers feel their need.
Possible creation of new kinds of weapons; genetic food and beverage weapons.
Additional costs of labeling whether products are GMOs or not. This might increase costs of foods.
Widening corporate size gaps between food producing giants and smaller ones. This might cause a consolidation in the market: fewer competitors increase the risk of oligopolies, which might increase food prices.
Larger companies might have more political power. They might be able to influence safety and health standards (example: less stringent regulations, standards and requirements).
Activists’ increased ability to boycott and influence food market, food retailing, and food prices.
Unforeseen risks and dangers due to the complexity of nature.
Allergies may become more intense, and also, new allergy types may develop..
Discrepancies in information flow. GMO producers stress the benefits, but are reluctant to talk about risks and dangers.
5. 5. CONCLUSION;
As we all know that GMO is an organism that has been transform by the insertion of one or more genes while in transgenic crop is a plant that contains genes that has/have been artificially inserted instead of plant acquiring such though pollination countries that grow transgenic crops include Argentina,austrialia, Bulgaria, Germany, Canada, china, Mexico, Romania, Spain , south Africa ,Uruguay, and the united state of America. Being advantages of GMO it can cause harmful effect to us.
6. 6. As we all know that GMO benefits include higher crop yield , increased farm profit and reduce farm cost , and improvement in the environment. I choose ANTI GMO because in the different reason at the above passage and also because this GMOs has/have potential risk; it is danger of unintentionally introducing allergens and other anti-nutrition factor in foods; the likelihood of transgenes escaping from cultivated crop in to wild relatives; the potential for pest of evolve resistance to the toxic produce by GMO crop and the risk of this toxins affecting non target organism to other. According to other that GMO is the solution to hunger? Yes it the solution to hunger but it can cause harmful effect to the body. now a days we feel climate change and global warming because of people, the people is the one who destroyed our environment because of their new invention and more changes that we accept this day. This changes can cause destruction of our environment. this new invention is the starting of new finding on how to produce the demand of the people but they can’t view the bad effects of every invention s and they point is to give the supply/needed of us.
7. 7. GMOs have n significant benefit and have potential risk wherever we go we never ease the ad vantages a n d disadvantage of GMO it just like the other sometimes good or bad to health of e very one. This GMOs has/have big ad vantage of modern biotechnology over traditional breeding in producing superior varieties but when the day comes that our body is needs more trees balance of nature in the way he/she needs a fresh air, not to much hot, clean water without contaminated with any chemical. This day will happen if we continue the process of producing more yield by the use of GMO, that affect the other organism that has/have the ability of balancing our nature. Because we def end to us especially in the environment on how we take care of it on how our surrounding still preserve.
