  1. 5th Grade SCIENCE 5 TEACHER CHRYSXIANNE DANGOY
  2. ATTENDANCE CHECK
  3. LET’S REVIEW! 1. What was our previous discussion all about? 2. What are these three natural state of matter? 3. How can you say that it is solid, liquid, and gas? Can you give 1 example each of these three natural state of matter?
  4. WHAT’S MY TARGET? At the end of the class, you are expected to: a. Identify the materials that are good conductors of heat and electricity. b. Describe how light, sound, and heat travel. c. Show how black and colored objects affect the ability to absorb heat. d. Understand how heat, light and sound produce.
  5. A B C D E We see apple as red because it reflects red light D
  6. A B C D E Roads appear wet during summer because of the light it refracts upward. E
  7. A B C D E We tend to wear white and light clothing during summer and black or dark clothes during winter. B
  8. A B C D E Houses with white paint are cooler than those with black or dark paint C
  9. A B C D E Dark colored clothes dried faster than light colored ones A
  10. My father usually goes to the farm to plant some crops. It was a hot day. What kind of clothes should he wear? Why?
  11. My sister can’t sleep at night, so what she always do is listen to a song or music to feel sleepy. What kind of song or music should she listen in order to sleep? Why?
  12. You want to drink a hot coffee, what kind of drinking glass will you use? Why?
  13. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT’S OUR TOPIC FOR TODAY’S DISCUSSION?
  14. THE EFFECTS OF LIGHT, SOUND, AND HEAT
  15.  What are light, sound, and heat?  What are the sources of light, sound, and heat?  How do light, sound, and heat travel?  What are the uses of light, sound, and heat?
  16. LIGHT - is a form of electromagnetic radiation that enables the human eye to see or make things visible. It is also defined as radiation that is visible to the human eye.
  17. SOURCES OF LIGHT can be divided into two (2): NATURAL SOURCES ARTIFICIAL SOURCES resources that are found in the environment and are developed without the intervention of humans. Other examples of natural sources: • Fire • Water • Stars any light source that is not naturally occurring. Made by humans. Other examples of natural sources: • Light bulbs, lamp posts and televisions
  18. HOW LIGHT TRAVELS? Two ways on how light travels: REFLECTION and REFRACTION REFLECTION When people look into a mirror, they see an image of themselves behind the glass. REFRACTION The refraction gives the pencil a slight magnifying effect, which makes the angle appear bigger than it actually is, causing the pencil to look crooked.
  19. THREE (3) DIFFERENT TYPES OF MATERIALS THAT LIGHT WILL PASS OR NOT PASS THROUGH OPAQUE MATERIALS TRANSPARENT MATERIALS TRANSLUCENT MATERIALS
  20. OPAQUE MATERIAL Opaque objects is something that allows no light through it. OTHER EXAMPLES:  METALS  STONE  WOOD  TABLE
  21. TRANSPARENT MATERIAL - materials that lets light travel through it, meaning we can see through the object completely. EXAMPLES:  WATER  GLASS  EYEGLASSES  AIR
  22. TRANSLUCENT MATERIAL A translucent material is an object that you are not able to clearly see through because only some light can pass through. EXAMPLES:  TINTED CAR WINDOWS  SUNGLASSES  A PIECE OF TISSUE PAPER
  23. DID YOU KNOW THAT DOGS CAN HEAR SOUND AT A HIGHER FREQUENCY THAN HUMAN? SOUND
  24. SOUND - Is created when something vibrates and sends waves of energy into our ears. - Is a form of energy that can be heard and travels in waves. There are sounds that are GOOD TO HEAR and there are also sounds that are UNBEARABLE TO HEAR.
  25. KINDS OF SOUNDS PLEASANT SOUNDS - Sound that feels happy, comfortable, or evoke positive emotions. Ex. birds, lullaby songs, ocean waves and piano. UNPLEASANT SOUNDS - Sounds are those which make us cringe, plug our ears, or evoke negative emotions. Ex. are crying, drilling/construction, something that might be startling, such as thunder, a glass breaking, or a siren and fireworks.
  26. HEAT keep us warm. Another form of energy. Can be felt when sunlight hits you. - It is energy that is transferred from one body to another as the result of a difference in temperature.
  27. - Energy that is transferred from one body to another as the result of a difference in temperature. - The sun is the main source of heat on Earth. - The sun’s heat keeps the Earth warm enough for living things to survive. HEAT Three ways on how heat is transferred? * CONDUCTION – The transfer of heat from one substance to another due to direct contact. Ex. When you place a metal spoon on a bowl of a boiling water, the heat will transfer to the metal spoon.
  28. * CONVECTION – The transfer of heat through a fluid caused by molecular motion. Ex. Some cuisines start with boiling meat, and vegetable, the heat from the boiling water will be transferred to the vegetables and meat for it to be cooked. * RADIATION – is energy that moves from one place to another. Ex. Heat from a stove burner
  29. GOOD CONDUCTORS OF HEAT AND ELECTRICITY
  30. APPLICATION QUIZ BEE 1. The teacher will show a flashcards containing different questions. 2. The students will be given 20 seconds to answer the questions in the box. 3. After 20 seconds, the teacher will count 5 seconds to raise their answers.
  31. FLASHCARDS It is an object that you are not able to clearly see through because only some light can pass through. It is a form of energy that can be heard and travels in waves. It is another form of energy. Can be felt when sunlight hits you. A sound which make us cringe, plug our ears, or evoke negative emotions. HEAT LIGHT TRANSLUCENT MATERIAL SOUND The transfer of heat from one substance to another due to direct contact. UNPLEASANT SOUND CONDUCTION It is a form of Electromagnetic radiation that enables the human eye to see or make things visible.
  32. ASSESSMENT Directions: Choose the object that best describe your answer. 1. Encircle the object that produces as heat energy. 2. Encircle the object that produces light energy.
  33. 3. Encircle the object that produces sound energy. 4. Encircle the object that produces sound and light energy. 5. Encircle the object that produces light and heat.
  34. ASSIGNMENT DRAWING Choose among LIGHT, SOUND, and HEAT and then show its importance through a poster making. Provide at least 10 sentences at the back of your paper that will explain your drawing. Use long bond paper for your poster. Make it creative and neat.
