Class contract

  1. 1. CLASS CONTRACT Draw up a class contract specifying 10 rules which will form a consistent part of the group’s classroom practice for the semester.
  2. 2. Objective <ul><li>To create a classroom rules and make a contract that makes them feel in control and confident of classroom expectations. </li></ul><ul><li>The contract acts as a foundation visible tool for positive reinforcement throughout the year. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Definition <ul><li>A class contract is an agreement made between learners and the teacher to follow certain rules and standard. </li></ul><ul><li>It applies to both the learners and the teacher and is drawn up at the beginning of the course. </li></ul>
  4. 4. The Class Contract Lesson <ul><li>Teacher puts students in groups of about three to four. </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher gives groups 10 minutes to brainstorm a list of five positive classroom rules. </li></ul><ul><li>Groups write their choices on the black/whiteboard. </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher asks whole class to find the most common rules between all groups. Students vote on top five if necessary. </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>Teacher compiles the fresh list of top five positive classroom rules on the board. </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher asks the class if they agree. If one person disagrees, the class must re-arrange the list. The drafting does not end until the entire class agrees. </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher types up the classroom rules on paper. For homework, students must take it home, show parent/guardian and both must read and sign it. </li></ul>

That we will work on group assignments collaboratively. </li></ul><ul><li>4. Switch roles per assignment. </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>5. Show up at meetings and workshop on time. </li></ul><ul><li>6. Complete assignments on time. </li></ul><ul><li>7. Assist others having trouble with the assignments. </li></ul><ul><li>8. Give undivided attention and will not side talk or encourage anyone else to side talk during class. </li></ul>
