During this webinar we’ll take you on a tour of our Participation Reports, which give Crossref members and the wider scholarly community a clear, visual snapshot of the metadata that each one of our members is registering with Crossref. Registering richer metadata makes your content more useful and more discoverable to researchers and the wider scholarly community. This webinar was held on 8th December 2020.

- Hello and welcome to the Crossref Participation Reports webinar. We have an hour set aside for this session and we’re going to split it between us giving you some information, and you taking a look at your own Participation Report and asking us any questions you may have. We’ll start with a bit of orientation of zoom, so you know how you can participate, and then we’ll properly introduce the Crossref staff on this call. I’ll then move on to giving you some background on Participation Reports - what they are, and why they’re important. I’ll then walk you through a typical Participation Report, pointing out important elements as we go. And then finally, we’ll open the floor to you - please take a look at your own Participation Report, and ask us any questions you may have - maybe a reminder of what a particular section means, or how you can increase the percentage.
- To start with, everyone will be muted. If you want to ask a question, you have a few options. In your zoom application, you should see the following images at the bottom of your screen.
- If you would like to ask a question verbally, just click on the “raise hand” button. We’ll then be able to un-mute you, and you can ask your question. If you’d prefer to type your question, you can do this by clicking the “Q&A” button.
- I’m Amanda Bartell, and I head up the Member Experience team here at Crossref. I’m joined today by Paul Davis, one of our technical support specialists, and Sally Jennings, our member support specialist. They will be on hand to help answer your questions in the Q&A as we go along.
- Easily view what metadata you are actually registering with Crossref - not always obvious Sometimes, not all the metadata that you are collecting makes it through to Crossref, particularly if you’re working with a third party. See how you measure up to other members Identify gaps and update your metadata to fill the gaps Don’t forget, while there’s a charge to initially register your content, any subsequent updates to the metadata of existing DOIs is free of charge. Track your progress It takes between 24 - 48 hours for updates you make to reflect on Participation Reports.
