  1. 1. • WHAT IS ELECTRIC CIRCUIT? • HOW CAN THE SERIES CIRCUIT WORKS? • HOW CAN THE PARALLEL CIRCUIT WORKS? • ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF • SERIES AND PARALLEL CIRCUITS
  2. 2.  Electric circuits are made up of electrical components  These components must be joined together without any gap in between to form a closed circuit.
  3. 3. Series and Parallel There are 2 ways in which an electric circuit can be arranged: 1. Series 2. Parallel
  4. 4. Series circuit  A route for the flow of electricity that has only one path.  A Series circuit is a closed circuit in which the current follow one path.
  5. 5.  A series circuit connects the components one after the other  A single loop is formed  A break in any part of a series circuit stops the flow of current in the whole circuit.
  6. 6. 1. Total resistance (Rt) is equal to the sum of all the individual resistance. 2. In a series circuit the current flowing in all parts of the circuit is the same. 3. The sum of the voltage drops in a series circuit is equal to the applied voltage. 4. The voltage drop across each individual resistance depends upon the value of resistance.
  7. 7. if one component in a series circuit fails, then all the components in the circuit fail because the circuit has been broken. DISADVANTAGE
  8. 8. A parallel circuit has many paths for current to travel and more than one resistor, If one resistor stops working current will still travel to other resistors on same circuit. The voltage across all branches or paths of a parallel circuit is the same. PARALLEL CIRCUIT
  9. 9. Parallel • A parallel circuit divides into two or more branches. • The current divides and flows through each parallel branch. • If a component breaks or is removed, the other components remain on.
