  5. 5. Principle #1: Start with the End in MindOne of the reasons that people do not enjoy quick success withconversational hypnosis is that they donot start with the end in mind. What this means is that they do notclearly consider what exactly they wanttheir end objective is for theirconversational hypnosis is and thereforefail to ever reach it.Before beginning you should have aclear idea of what an ideal outcomewould be for you and what this outcomewould look like. You should also clearlypicture what each stage of the processlooks like so you know if you are oncourse or if you need to make alterationsto your plan. For example what will it look like when your subject is in a trance state? What will their expression look like? How will they be reacting to yourconversation?Next what would you like the person to do after you have used yourconversational hypnosis techniques on them? What words would you likethem to say and what actions would they take.Without knowing these things it will be impossible for you to embed thecorrect commands into your conversation and to track the progress thatyou are making.Remember decide before beginning what you want to achieve from yourconversational hypnosis.
  6. 6. Principle #2: Pace Your ConversationIt is important that when inducing a trance state and giving commands toyour subject that you pace your conversation according to their timelineand not your own.Often beginner covert hypnotists will be in a hurry to get to the pointwhere they are able to embed their command and to start persuading thesubject. In the process they will not check to make sure that the subject isresponding correctly to the techniques that they are using.During the session you may find that you need to move back and createmore rapport before moving forward once again. You may discover that you need to slow your voice or repeat yourcommands (remember repetition has a power all of its own) and you needto watch for the signs that this is appropriate.Conversational hypnosis is a two way process which requires not onlylearning specific methods and techniques but also how to read thesubjects response to those techniques. If you pace your conversational hypnosis sessions you will find that youhave a much greater degree of success with your conversational hypnosis.
  7. 7. Principle #3: The Power of AgreementGetting agreement from your subject is a key technique in conversationalhypnosis. When getting agreement from our subject we want to begin with thingsthat are obviously true to the person that you are hypnotizing. These maybe broad statements that almost nobody could disagree with.Once we get the subject to agree to these obviously true statements wecan lead them down a path of agreement. We continue with statements that whileplausible may not be as obviously true asthose first ones. While we do this wecontinue to operate within the subjectsown framework of belief.Eventually we are able to install our owncommands into the conversation which thesubject will agree with because we havealready taught them to agree to ourstatements.Once someone verbalizes agreement it is much harder for them to thenturn around later and reject it.This used to great effect by the Republican party who had people pledgetheir support to the candidate. Of course they were not obligated toactually vote this way but most actually ended up voting the same way asthey had pledged.
  8. 8. Principle #4: The Power of ANDUsing and to join two statements is a powerful way to persuade someonewithout them noticing.Remember when using conversational hypnosis you must operate withinthe subjects frame of reality. That means that you must not reject thingsthat they believe to be true but instead use these thoughts to embed yourown commands. So for example imagine that you wanted one of your employees to workon a project but they stated they can’t because it is almost five pm.You could state:“Yes, it is almost five pm but I need you to work on this project”When we use the word but or however it is like you are refusing whatthey have stated before hand. You are rejecting their frame of referenceand trying to install your own.If instead you were to use and the sentence would read.“Yes, it is almost five pm and I need you to work on this project”This second statement sounds like you are more restating what theyalready believe to be true. However you are in affect giving them thecommand that you wanted to.
  9. 9. Principle #5: The Power of PitchWhen we are talking how we use pitch will impact how our subjectregisters the statement. The way that we deliver a statement, command ora question is quite different in regards to pitch and we can use this to givehidden commands. When we talk about voice pitchwe mean does the voice rise orfall towards the end of thesentence. Here is an overview of howvoice pitch effects the way asentence is registered:Descending Pitch: Sentence isregistered as a commandAscending Pitch: Sentence is registered as a questionNeutral Pitch: Sentence is registered as a statementThe best way to get a feel for this is to practice it yourself. So aloud toyourself a question such as “Would you a cup of tea?” Notice how yourvoice rises towards the end of the sentence. Now say a command such as “Give me the book” Notice how your voicedescends towards the end of the sentence. Now try and swap the two so that for the question your voice descendsand for the statement it ascends.By using this vocal “trick” we can turn what sound like questions intocommands. This is effective because the conscious mind of our subjectregisters it as a question and so does not automatically reject it.However the unconscious mind registers it is as a command and will inall likelihood comply.
