4. Message from the CEO
Inspiration to learn comes from many sources. These days, many learners around the world seek to
improve their English language ability for a variety of reasons: some seek to prepare for travel, some
wish to work in international organizations at home or abroad, others hope to communicate seamlessly
with global friends, while others prefer to study for personal pleasure and satisfaction. What we can
be certain of these days is that learning English is for much more than just passing a test or
examination. Learners want to improve their English competencies in order to improve their lives.
There occurs a major change every decade or so in the field of English education. English education can
no longer be only about improving grades or preparing for a test. Why is it that so many EFL learners,
having studied English for several years, still cannot read a short book written in English or have fears
about striking up conversations with native English-speakers? We need a new communicative and
competency-based approach, as well as, a future-oriented vision for English education.
Our goal should be to equip students with necessary English skills that will enable them to acquire the
information and knowledge they need to communicate freely with English speakers from around the
world. English is effectively the lingua franca of the world and a prerequisite for international
competitiveness and success. We must meet not only the short-term goal of enabling students to get
better grades, but also the long-term goal of enabling them to become effective members of the global
village ten or fifteen years down the road.
Compass Publishing’s objective is to help improve the quality of our clients’ lives by helping them to
maximize the value of English education . We ensure a high-standard of quality for our clients by
paying attention to even the minutest details of our content. We enable our students to become
important and active members on the global stage in the long run.
Compass is on its way to becoming the world’s leader in the field of English education. We continue to
reinforce and strengthen our core capacities, focus on researching and developing the next generations
of content, and furthering our range of products and services to meet the needs of learners, teachers,
school administrators, principals, language institutes, kindergartens, schools, universities, and
Ministries of Education around the world.
Inspired to teach. Inspired to learn.
