As we scan the operator landscape we see certain challenges that are common across the players in the industry. Some are same as before – competitors, cost of operations, etc. However, some are new. Some challenges can be transformed in to opportunities…..with the right strategy (business and technical) The question before us is whether operators need a new architecture paradigm and, if yes, what would that be? That massive scale has been critical to enabling a truly healthy networked economy. And it took a lot to make it happen. Think about what the industry has achieved just over the last 10 years or so… Bandwidth costs a 10th of what it did. And the availability of cheap bandwidth drove innovation. We can carry on a single wavelength today two and a half times the capacity that an entire DWDM system could carry 10 years ago. And (NEED ANOTHER EXAMPLE HERE).
As I mentioned, we have to keep building the scalability of networks…
