Network Infrastructure Case Study
Through network-rich colocation, Allied Fiber reduced barriers and extended networks in the
Southeast US, ultimately decreasing costs and risks when connecting to Latin America
Requirements & Challenges
Ability to serve network operators of all types
including national, regional and metro carriers;
submarine cable networks; wireless backhaul
providers; municipal networks & content providers
Access to subsea cable providers
Lateral connection from the Allied Fiber backbone
to the Jacksonville carrier hotel
Reasonable & flexible terms
The broadest network choice in Jacksonville
Facilitate connections at the intersection of metro,
long-haul & subsea fiber routes
The Allied Fiber solution set provides network operators with control of
underlying infrastructure assets, thereby addressing costly backhaul and
capacity issues. The company’s network neutral, open access,
integrated dark fiber superstructure links the traditional hub of Miami to
the emerging network hub of Jacksonville, Florida and then onto
Atlanta, while facilitating intermediate access along the route for
inclusion of local networks in the global, network architecture.
The company is advancing its build out of a nationwide wholesale fiber network, currently developing its 700-
mile Southeast U.S. Route. The route will be the first to enable open interconnection between all network
operator types within a single, physical layer long-haul system. Allied Fiber’s network philosophy is to connect
to important network agnostic data centers and carrier hotels, so the company naturally turned to Cologix
when connecting Jacksonville, Florida to Atlanta, Georgia. Cologix operates the carrier hotel’s Meet-Me-
Room (MMR) at 421 West Church Street in Jacksonville.
“It is vital for Allied Fiber to have a presence in the network neutral carrier hotels along
our fiber routes. In Jacksonville, Cologix was the obvious choice as their Meet-Me-Room
in the carrier hotel at 421 W. Church St. offers the greatest network density in the region.
By colocating with Cologix, we can enhance our business by offering more points of
interconnection to our customers. Allied Fiber will expand fiber connectivity in and thru
Jacksonville and Cologix will play a major role in that effort.”
– Allied Fiber CEO Hunter Newby
