Meetings, meetings and more meetings instead of creating working valuable software
• First we meet to create the product vision, roadmap, product backlog
• Then we meet to make changes to product vision, roadmap, backlog
• And to continuously reprioritize what is on the backlog
• We update the ”status” of our work every day in the tool
• We also meet to tell each other that we have changed the status
• We use chat and comments in our tool to synchronize
• Somehow despite how much we meet and communicate and synchronize, our architecture keeps getting worse and we keep introducing more bugs.
• It could be because we don’t have enough time to write test code, but we do have a CI pipeline, so there’s that.
• We sometimes must have a “code freeze” or “release” to do some more integration testing, yet our software crashes often.
• What’s penetration testing?! Security….hmmmm I don’t know who takes care of that.
• But we have very valuable retrospective meetings.
• Our action points are usually “have a meeting to improve the way we run one of our meetings such as planning”
• But you know it’s really difficult to do anything well because we are a distributed team in different time zones.
We always blame remote work or remote workers when we do not communicate effectively

• Stop trying to copy collocated behaviors.
• You must think and behave differently in
distributed teams.
• Invest in your Ops, security, CI/CD pipeline,
automation (test, deploy, etc), and create
enough documentation, and make your
meetings valuable.
• Improve the processes that empower
