  • Hello I’m Gabriel Ortiz CEO of ClickSlide – a company which aims to make software creation simple to all participants. Our dream is to make everyone a developer. Even you!
  • Aaron Franco (on the left) and yours truly started this company, basically, to do cool stuff. Let me paint you the picture of my life! As a boy I moved from the tropical island of Puerto Rico to live in the Bronx (a different kind of island) where I spent the majority of my time wondering if there was more to life than just the Bronx. This wonder prompted me to move to Edinburgh to do my masters… and this affected me greatly. That aside, it is Edinburgh, or more specifically the UK (knowledge economy) where I discovered that knowledge and access to knowledge is what drives me. Aaron and I had been talking for ages about how we could make software more efficient and more accessible. In 2010 we came together in London to figure out how to solve this problem. We discovered that enterprise has spent a significant amount of time and money dealing with fragmentation, integration and how this affects speed to market. We know the world is always changing. This time, we realized we could make a change.
  • And now the world IS changing. I.T. is transforming around Mobile (through its customers), Cloud Computing (through its service providers) and Big Data( through Information retrieval and evaluation).
  • There is a great need for software and therefore a great need for more developers. but Developers cost a lot of money, and aren’t able to deliver quick enough or often enough to satisfy the appetite for more software. We need a platform that solves for supply and demand at the same time.
  • These demands are currently being made upon APIs. A lot can be said about APIs 2013 is a tipping point where:   API importance will increase demand for more APIs As a result API complexity will require a fresh approach Which means APIs will need to solve broader problems And if ClickSlide has its way APIs will increasingly become the engine for automation and a world of connected devices But, more integration will be needed And more software we’ll need to be built Which will require simpler interfaces and processes. But first you might ask yourself. “How much do I know about APIs?”
  • An API can be represented as a bridge between many systems. In enterprise, the three pillars of IT are (Big data, Cloud Computing and Mobile) these three enablers of productivity can only be linked via an API. Which is why their importance is growing.
  • APIs – are both secure and direct access to software as well as hardware. There is also a growing problem in I.T. in how we can have access to those bridges. Because APIs are written in a myriad of different languages, formats and logic. Basically, no two APIs are alike. However, before a sensible determination can be made on usefulness of that API, you must first integrate that API into your application. At ClickSlide WE START WITH DATA. We believe that Data is at the root of everything.
  • Because Data is knowledge and knowledge is the key to understanding.
  • And Mobile’s adds greater relevance to data and creates new bridges between an enterprise and its information. Once you have a deeper connection to data, you can discover previously unseen connections
  • Once you have deeper connection to data through mobile, Enterprise can make use of previously unseen connections. Currently, Data just sits in the enterprise…
  • Doin’ nothin’
  • But when you connect your data to a mobile device freedom and creativity will abound.
  • All jargon aside… The idea is simple. A clearer conversation with data helps him to understand you and for you to understand him.
  • Mobile (and tablets) are the most accessible way to interact with data. They are lightweight, low-powered and completely tactile.
  • Data doesn’t come across very easily. There is so much fragmentation, limitations, disconnections and pitfalls to easy integration that it is difficult to know where to begin. Also, data is completely contextual and grows too rapidly to properly assess.
  • Even the greatest minds have trouble making use of data in software. And might view creating software as a challenge.
  • And even if you can hire a bunch of geniuses, when you do, it is very costly and creates a rigid hold on projects which ultimately limits innovation. Ultimately…
  • When you try to innovate, you are running the risk of high costs and poor results.
  • We must look to the future and create cool stuff. It is our destiny as a civilization. The question is when?
  • You have to start thinking about how far away this future is when cool things like this are happening. ARM HOLDINGS profits up 20 per cent Source of buoyant profits: more devices connected to the Internet The much vaunted ‘ Internet of Things ’ is arriving… ClickSlide can be its operating system.
  • The when is completely dependent on the costs and the speed of innovation. Automation of these processes will give us the future FASTER.
  • Ford was founded over 100years ago and is increasingly becoming a company that lives and dies by its data. A wide range of industries are becoming information companies. Enabling success
  • The Nissan leaf is completely electric and comes with an integrated app.
  • This app can show you both where the nearest power station is, and what’s happening inside your car.
  • You can sort of think of it as a bridge is extended from your vehicle to your mobile. Creating a greater depth of what is possible in an app.
  • It also means that you can connect devices to your home, yourself or even YOUR DOG. Which makes previously unseen connections possible!
  • The time has come for more integrations into more devices.
  • Mobile usage is growing faster than we can comprehend.
  • Mobile use is expanding rapidly and the Enterprise has taken notice! Or locked phazers.
  • I know you’ve seen this before, but I want to remind you that APIs are the bridges between, Mobiles, big data and cloud computing. Creating clear access to these bridges allows us to shape the future we intend to create. But we don’t want to call them APIs! 2013 is a tipping point where:   API complexity will require a fresh approach API importance will increase demand APIs will need to solve broader problems APIs will increasingly become the engine for automation and a world of connected devices More integration will be needed to build software with simpler interfaces and processes.
  • We prefer to call them webpoints and by simply calling APIs webpoints, we bring ourselves closer to the internet of things.
  • And by doing this we allow ourselves to evolve. The enterprise must evolve to survive. Evolution comes via complexity. The more webpoints we can connect, the more complex we can make systems.
  • The more complex we become the more simplicity we will bring to our lives. Increasing happiness and improving over all efficiency. What part do we play?
  • We bring simplicity to the process of integration: We match any API on the left to any API to the right and you choose your App in the middle. We are calling this product Abacus
  • We will rollout this product incrementally. Allowing greater access to our automated tools over time. Automation is the key to integration.
  • Abacus makes the future possible. Thank you all for listening.
  • Integration is a HUGE market. Automation of that market, is where we come in. Enabling...
  • Better communication within the enterprise.
