  • Cloud computing promises not only a more efficient IT infrastructure but also a greater level of agility – allowing IT to be more responsive to business requirements. At EMC, we now offer 3 paths to the private cloud:Build Your Own – The ultimate in customizability, enabling customers to select the specific best of breed parts they want. It gives them unmatched flexibility allowing them to design a solution to their exact specifications. It provides for ultimate flexibility, but requires a significant amount of expertise, overhead and time to deploy and manage.Vblock – converged infrastructure – offers single point of management, support and is pre-integrated. The high degree of standardization inherent to Vblock platforms makes Vblock an ideal infrastructure foundation for large enterprise, service providers and public sector customers, allowing them to transform to virtualized environments based upon VMware, Cisco and EMC technologies. It is the most transformative and simplest to manage option available on the market. For customers looking at some of the benefits that converged infrastructure offers, we have Vblock. VSPEX – VSPEX is a more open solution built on proven Infrastructure. While VCE is doing extremely well, some customers have requirements for both Vblock and VSPEX, and other customers simply want the flexibility that we are offering with VSPEX. VSPEX significantly enhances EMC’s ability to offer customers true choice in terms of the hypervisor layer to servers and networking components. VSPEX offers some of the benefits of a converged infrastructure while offering customers the flexibility to choose best of breed components that fit their existing IT infrastructures.
  • This slide gets into the specifics of the VSPEX solutions we are announcing today – As you can see our focus is on Private Cloud infrastructure and End user Computing /VDI . The market segments being targeted are SMB thru and including Commercial /Mid market. Key points to make –

  • EMC’s Avamar is a complete backup and recovery software and hardware solution – an integrated system for faster backups, reduced network traffic and simple single-step restores. Avamar’s unique client-side global deduplication technology eliminates redundant backup data before it is sent over the network and stored. As an enterprise class backup & recovery solution, Avamar is optimized for both physical and virtual environments – enabling a smooth transition from physical to virtual. Avamar is tightly integrated to Data Domain systems for increased scalability and through its management console it manages all scheduling, policies, retention and recoveries for both the Avamar Data Store and the Data Domain systems. The Avamar Data Store offers high availability and reliability with its RAIN (Redundant Array of Independent Nodes) architecture, enabling daily recoverability verification and DR via replication.
  • SLIDE: Desktop Service Solutions Address a Wide Variety of NeedsSlide automatically animatesVMware View addresses a wide variety of end-user needs across a wide variety of use cases.Mobile Secure Desktop applies to workers who typically work out of the corporate office but are mobile so they also log in from home or on the road. These end-users often carry multiple devices and have a wide variety of applications that they require on their desktops. Typical users include: office based information workers, content and media workers, VIPs/Execs, Traveling Workers and Campus-Based/Home office information workers. Common initiatives include: BYOD , hoteling, hot-desking, telework, iPads, distance learning, seasonal employeesBusiness Process Desktop applies to offshoring or outsourcing scenarios where different categories of worker may have different desktop requirements. These facilities can be offshore insourced or outsourced or onshore outsourced campuses. Unlike branch offices, these facilities are often much larger with more employees and have more bandwidth to central datacenters.Typical users include: Contact center agents, offshore developers and back office employees for things like finance Common initiatives include: Improving customer SLAs, Reducing cost of business via offshoringBranch Office Desktop applies to companies with many smaller offices/sites dispersed regionally or globally. Often these sites have <100 employees or <50 desktops and they are across the WAN. Bandwidth between the sites and the central datacenter tends to vary greatly. Often end-users share one “computer” and there is limited or no local IT support at the site.Typical users include: Office based information and productivity workersCommon initiatives include: Desire to centralize branch and remote offices and reduce IT support costs.Always On Desktop applies to organizations who have a need for highly available, business continuous desktop services. This solution merely has architectural differences as compared to the Mobile Secure Desktop to ensure the minimal amount of downtime in the event of a disaster/outage or maximum uptime/responsiveness for a high transaction environment.
  • VMware vCenter Operations Management Suite provides cross-domain visibility and understanding of the virtual environment to optimize across compute, storage and network.Integration with a new VNX Connector will marry VNX storage metrics with VMware vCenter Operations capabilities such as intuitive, configurable dashboards with drill down, health alerts and patented analytics. This powerful integration provides customers with an end-to-end view of the virtual environment for rapid problem resolution and to proactively ensure optimal resource utilization and performance.
  • A virtual desktop environment takes your physical distributed environment and brings control to you, in your data center. With a centralized environment, you are better able to manage and support your end-users, ensuring the productivity of your environment. Additionally, with the desktop environment behind the firewall, you are able to increase the security of the environment.
  • Increase Application AvailabilityEliminate planned downtime and recover quickly from unplanned outages with the ability to securely backup and migrate entire virtual environments with no interruption in service.Increase Business Agility Respond to business changes and competitive pressure with speed with TemplatesSimplified centralized management with APIs providing Transparency Reducing CostsVMware enables you to reduce operation costs by automating deployment or hosts, and simplifying the addition of storage. Resource load balancing ensures your IT department spends less time on maintenance.Built in data protection and application replication saves time and money.Improve Backup and RecoveryReduce backup times by 90%, speed image recoveries by 30xReduce backup storage required by 10x-30xFast and easy single-step restores Enabling Cloud InfrastructureVSPEX with vSphere5 enables private and hybrid clouds in a scalable converged infrastructure – so that in the future the business would like or needs to move workloads to the public cloud, they are positioned to do this easily.Delivery Infrastructure as a Service with vCloud DirectorSimple: Pre-validated solutions with integrated components that simplify server consolidation and application provisioning with easy, wizard-driven storage management with VMware and Microsoft Application integration and single step recoveriesEfficient: Centralized VM management and deployment, with tight storage integration with hypervisor. Next-generation backup solutions that reduce backup times by 90% and speed image recoveries by 30x. Storage Thin provisioning and compression for 50% lower storage acquisition costs; 10-30x less backup storage required.Flexible: Multiple Reference Architectures designed according to business needs. Best of breed compute and networking layers. Flexible Storage and Backup configurations. Easily scaled up or down at point of sale to fit the end users’ needs.
