Here to talk with you about delivering secure mobile device access in the workspace – with Cisco BYOD and AirWatch by VMWare.
Mobility at work is increasingly top of mind for everyone from the CIO, IT, and Line of Business leaders. [show first two columns, speak to stats]
So, since there are a lot more mobile devices in the workplace than ever before, so it’s no surprise then that the top mobility initiatives are: Mobile security Mobile device management and Mobile application management
Given this mobility wave, how do you keep your business running securely and efficiently? What if you could…
With Cisco Mobile Workspace, you can.
Mobile Workspace is a business-to-employee (B2E) solution that gives your mobile employees secure, easy access to a portable workspace environment, on any device.
They can use business applications, communicate and conference, and access content from nearly anywhere. They’re more productive and collaborative with co-workers, partners, and customers, without compromising security or IT control.
The solution builds on three stand-alone modules: BYOD, for securing mobile devices on the network with MDM partners – this is what we will spend the rest of the discussion on today. Desktop Virtualization, for securely delivering Windows-based applications to any device via the data center Mobile Collaboration, for extending communications and conferencing to any device
[show technology stack] Our partnership with AirWatch provides a complete hardware and software technology stack for delivering applications, tools, and content to employees on any device. [show solution stack] This joint solution brings together Cisco’s Unified Access – which is the infrastructure, policy management, and security – to your employee workspace while AirWatch provides mobile device management.
This partnership provides…[start showing text] Simplicity through a unified management tool and easy implementation. Better user experience for greater productivity with Application visibility and control (AVC) (provides classification, monitoring, and traffic control at the application level) and gigabit wifi that delivers fast transfer speeds even in high density environments. Higher security through a contextual access policy, secure remote access, and easy onboarding. Flexible deployment and configuration – with customizable, advanced feature set, professional services, extended support, and extensive MDM integration with partners such as AirWatch
Let’s talk a bit more about Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE). ISE is the core intelligence for secure access, providing all-in-one enterprise policy control for comprehensive wired, wireless and VPN access.
It includes rigorous identification---with relevant identity context that includes multiple key attributes (who, what, where, when, how) and dynamic enforcement. Couple it with automated user onboarding and device security for consistent and secure access control. Users, via various endpoints, will have a seamless experience through all access methods.
[As a sidenote, it’s important to remember that device identity and BYOD is not just about smartphones and tablets. It could include many different devices – such as Cisco access points Healthcare equipment Video surveillance cameras]
So we’ve talked about ISE, but why do you also need AirWatch?
While ISE provides secure policy enforcement, it has limited device posturing awareness so it can’t detect if PIN-lock is enabled or if the device has been jailbroken, for instance.
MDM providers such as AirWatch, on the other hand, provide detailed posture information but have limited capacity to enforce network policies. Thus, ISE partnered with AirWatch provides an ideal match for secure mobile access.
With the integration, ISE is able to: Receive device compliance info from AirWatch to make access policy decisions Push administrative device actions, such as remote wiping, via AirWatch
So how does the integrated solution really work? Let’s look at the three phases of network access. Enrollment: clients that aren’t already registered are redirected to AirWatch’s registration page and non-compliant clients are granted restricted access Daily access: updated data from the device is received and ties into the access policy De-enrollment: ISE initiates data wiping on the client, if the device is stolen or if the employee leaves the company, for instance
So let’s wrap things up with a few points to highlight. Cisco BYOD plus AirWatch provides:
Simplified operations: One policy, one management, one network allows you to quickly adapt to business demand Cisco validated designs – for easier and faster deployments, with a specific guide for ISE-AirWatch integration Flexibility of on-premise or cloud-managed solutions
Rich user experience: High density wireless with broadest .11ac portfolio Cisco HDX tackles the challenges of highest density wireless environments Application Visibility and Control (AVC) provides classification, monitoring, and traffic control at the application level
Highly secure: Easy device onboarding Context-aware policy protects business and maintains compliance Integrates with MDM partners including AirWatch Secures both corporate and employee owned devices
Give your employees a robust yet secure user experience anywhere and on any device, while making it simple for yourself to deploy, integrate, and manage.
