Industry Survey Reveals a Fifth of Operators Surveyed Plan to Launch NextGeneration Hotspots by End of 2013Posted by kelliwon Nov 5, 2012Why is deploying Next Generation Hotspot (NGH) so important for operators? Because the technologywill make it easier for the end user to access Wi-Fi Hotspots and experience improved ease of access andsecurity. The industry is moving towards new standards like NGH and according to the WBA Wi-FiIndustry Survey and Report (released today, November 5th), a fifth of operators surveyed plan to launchNGH by end of 2013. These deployments will help operators understand how they can make a return onNGH-related investment to ensure this technology reaches its full potential. The WBA Wi-Fi Industry Survey also predicts growth in outdoor Wi-Fi access. In the Wi-Fi industry, thereis now an ongoing commitment from operators to integrate Wi-Fi into their overall mobile broadbandportfolio which is an extension of their investment into public Wi-Fi over the last 12 months. Someoperators are seeing as much as 75% of traffic in the home being carried over a Wi-Fi network, compared to just 5% outdoors. However, as connecting to a public Wi-Fi network becomes easier, thepercentage of Wi-Fi access outdoors is expected to grow. The WBAs Wi-Fi Industry Report in conjunction with Informa Telecoms and Media is based on a surveyof 386 respondents from the Wi-Fi eco-system, the largest proportion being integrated operators.Download the Report today!
