University Avenue Alternatives

  1. 1. Increases the width of the sidewalk by 5 feet on each side, making room for additional lighting and trees. Also provides a raised median in the center of the road to maximize safety for people crossing the street but requires vehi- cles to make U-turns. Also provides a buffered bike lane, which gives a safe space for people to bike, but puts them in conflict with parked cars. Wide Sidewalks
  2. 2. Replaces the center turn lane with a wide median that can be planted with trees but requires vehicles to make U-turns. Also provides a buffered bike lane, which gives a safe space for people to bike, but puts them in conflict with parked cars. Wide Center Median
  3. 3. Protected Bike Lane Maximizes safety for people bicycling by including physical barrier with bike lane. Also replaces the center turn lane with a narrow, raised median to im- prove safety for people crossing the street. Requires vehicles to make U-turns.
