  3. 3. Start with a list. List the larger categories that describe how you now spend your time. Use the categories below, or write in your own. Then estimate the time you spend on each activity and the percent of total available time that represents. Make a time use pie chart. Keeping and average day (24 hours) or month (720 hours) in mind, transfer this information to your time use pie chart. Make the size of the chart’s “slices” in proportion to the time you estimate you spend on each activity. Activity Estimated Time Spent Estimated Percent of Total Hours Sleep Work Commuting Household Chores Child Care/Interacting with Children Time with partner (if applicable) Self Care (things that renew or strengthen to body and/or spirit) Errands Spiritual Activities Learning/Intellectual Activities Social Activities Creative Activities Things that are fun © Keys to Change, LLC 2017 www.keystochange.net 1
  4. 4. How do I spend my time now? • Are each of the slices of the pie the size you want them to be? • Are there slices missing from the pie? © Keys to Change, LLC 2017 www.keystochange.net 1
  5. 5. How do I want to spend my time? Now you can dream a little. Make a new pie, one that changes the slices to the size you want them to be, that leaves out the slices you don’t want, and includes all the pieces you want it to have. Don’t worry about if it seems possible - just go ahead and make this pie! • Compare this pie to the first one. What do you see? What are you learning from it? • Pick one change you’d like to make to your first pie to make it look more like the second one. What can you do less of, in order to make space for what you want to do more of? • Brainstorm the longest list you can of what you can do to make that change. • From your list, choose one specific, realistic and measurable step you can take to make that change. Small steps • Take three deep, slow breaths, noticing what you feel in your body ___________________________________________________ ___________________________________________________ 2. Learn to Discern • Is it important? • Is it aligned with my values? • Does this make my heart sing? • Is it urgent? Is it an emergency? Can it wait? • What matters most right now? ________________________________________ ________________________________________ 3. Know When to Say No • A bad feeling • Plate already full • Not what I do these days _________________________________________ _________________________________________ 4. Hav-ta, Gonna, Wanna Lists • Each day’s to-do list has up to 3 “have-ta’s” and 1 “wanna.” The “gonnas” can wait! • ____________________________________________ • ____________________________________________ • ____________________________________________ • ____________________________________________
