  3. 3. Dr. Angel Iscovich, “Dr. I” was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina to survivors from World War II. Growing up in the shadow of this devastating conflict, he and his family struggled financially with little to call their own. As a young immigrant to the United States, a world of opportunity led him to explore Philosophy and Medicine. Graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy (Summa Cum Laude) from the University of Puget Sound brought him to the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine, and post graduate training in Psychiatry, and his interest in Human Behavior; most notably the focus Emergency Medicine. He served as a part-time teacher and mentor as Associate Clinical Professor at USC Keck School of Medicine over a period of ten years at Los Angeles County Medical Center. Interest in leadership, organizational development, and strategy was exercised in the corporate health care sector over many years, as well as in philanthropy, serving most recently as the Chair of Direct Relief, the top-rated charity in the United States. This broad experience affords Dr. I with a unique view into human behavior, aiding in his continual search for meaning and purpose in our lives. Dr. I's Story 3
  4. 4. Routineology & In The Ring 4 Conventional wisdom suggests the best way to navigate our noisy new world is to accept change. Open up to novelty. Go with the flow. Live in the moment. Embrace the relentless pelting of content minute by minute. This may not be the best way to journey through our lives — and in fact may go against our very nature. My experience, as well as no shortage of compelling scientific research, informs me humans not only require structure, they thrive in it. From the womb to the tomb, we create and recreate numerous dynamic “Time Bubbles,” offering us meaning, fulfillment, and purpose. When it comes to the incredible wide world of dog shows, humans, those (largely hairless) upright walking mammals, bring their dogs to compete for accolades on the stage of canine pageantry. The uninitiated mind may boggle at the idea their fellow bipeds would expend so much time and energy to competitively breed, raise, groom, and show dogs. What is it about our human makeup that compels us to employ mankind’s most trusted and beloved animals to compete as our proxies?
  5. 5. Speaking Topics: The Art & Science of Routine Outsourcing your Time Management to Artificial Intelligence (AI) Leadership and the "Time Bubble" of Success Conventional wisdom suggests the best way to navigate our noisy new world is to accept change. We used to make decisions based on what the Bible told us. When people turned away from religion, we began trusting our feelings and our intuition. Nowadays, we trust our algorithms that seem to know us better. From Fitbits to smart watches to telemedicine; more and more, people are waking up to the realization that Artificial Intelligence algorithms know more about them than they do. Routineology explores whether A.I. just might be better poised to create our routines for us in the future? After all, based on the data it has on us, it knows us better than we do. Leadership can take many forms. To be effective in a corporate, athletic, or creative setting, much less survive (and thrive) throughout the business life cycle requires proper structure and focus. Today’s successful leaders require good communication skills, credibility, passion for their work, and the ability to manage in the “grey.” Even more important, they must be able to establish their own “Time Bubble” for success. Dr. l discusses the necessity of generating one’s stable environment and routine to stay competitive in our highly competitive business landscape. 5
