  10. 10. Content Calendars: Tips for Channel Calendars Tip No. 1: Limit edit access of your content calendar to a few key planning people - there’s nothing worse than 100 owners editing a spreadsheet! Tip No. 2: Make it fun, easy and enjoyable for teams to request a spot on your content calendar - make sure they know they’re in safe hands! (WIIFM) Tip No. 3: Keep a close track on what was agreed vs what actually went live, and follow up on any discrepancies!
  11. 11. Content Calendars: Tips for Cross-Team Planning Tip No. 1: Promote the benefits to each team of participating in cross-team planning. e.g “No other team will be able to send an email on your dedicated day.” or “We’ll ensure all the other teams make room for your promotion.” (WIIFM) Tip No. 2: Make planning sessions fun & interactive. Lead with enthusiasm. Tip No. 3: Always follow up by documenting agreements in writing and circulating to everyone involved. Tip No. 4: Monitor and report on actual content produced and released. Keep people accountable!
  12. 12. Content Calendars & Senior Leadership - Leadership are much more likely to buy into something that everyone on the ground is working with and enjoying - Proactively report on the content featured in your calendar. (Try to get a slot at a regular meeting OR circulate planning docs or screenshots)
  13. 13. Content Calendars & Senior Leadership - Use your calendar to report on results e.g. key metrics by placement or campaign - Use your calendar to showcase the achievements of teams - Use your calendar to focus leadership on conflicts e.g. overloaded channels or conflicting priorities)
  14. 14. Content Calendars & Conflicting Priorities - Conflicting priorities across teams is often at the heart of any difficulties - Try to agree priorities with all your key stakeholders upfront - that way everyone knows where they stand and you don’t have to make priority calls on a case by case basis.
  15. 15. Content Strategy & Content Calendars - Use your calendars as a tool for implementing your content strategy - Start by ensuring that your calendar is booked up with content that supports your content goals. - Get placements key to your strategy in FIRST so that you are meeting the needs of your USERS (which hopefully your strategy is geared towards) before servicing internal teams. - Flip the way you arrange your calendars to support your strategy e.g. arrange by user persona vs internal teams
  16. 16. Content Strategy & Content Calendars
  17. 17. A few other thoughts... - Workflow vs Calendar Planning...keep together where efficient, separate for larger effort (e.g. social vs building web pages) - Use your calendar to actively reduce your workload (e.g. “unfortunately there’s no space in the calendar to promote that so we can’t build it for you!”) - To help ease workload for channels, build a bank of evergreen content in advance
