Way of the Cross, A Daily Walk with Christ

  1. 1. VIA CRUCIS Thursday, October 31, 13
  2. 2. PREPARATORY PRAYER O most merciful Jesus, with a contrite heart and penitent spirit, I bow down in profound humility before Thy divine majesty. I adore Thee as my supreme Lord and Master; I believe in Thee, I hope in Thee, I love Thee above all things. I am heartily sorry for having offended Thee, my Supreme and Only Good. I resolve to amend my life, and although I am unworthy to obtain mercy, yet the sight of Thy holy cross, on which Thou didst die, inspires me with hope and consolation. I will, therefore, meditate on Thy sufferings, and visit the stations of Thy Passion in company with Thy sorrowful Mother and my guardian angel, with the intention of promoting Thy honor and saving my soul. I desire to gain all the indulgences granted for this holy exercise for myself and for the Poor Souls in Purgatory. O merciful Redeemer, who has said, "And I, if I be lifted from earth, will draw all things to Myself," draw my heart and my love to Thee, that I may perform this devotion as perfectly as possible, and that I may live and die in union with Thee. Amen. Thursday, October 31, 13

  6. 6. STATION 4 JESUS MEETS HIS SORROWFUL MOTHER. Mary sees her precious child suffering so much pain. Mary’s heart pierced and shares in Jesus’ suffering. Jesus comforted by His Mother’s presence, but also pained even more by her suffering. Jesus, teach me to love Your mother. Mary, teach me to love Jesus. Mary, my Mother, help me. Take me under Your mantle. Thursday, October 31, 13

Mary received Her son into her heart. We receive Jesus into our heart in the Eucharist. Mary, a worthy tabernacle. Make me pure, Lord, that I may be a worthy tabernacle for You. Let me not profane Your Body with a sinful heart when I receive You in Holy Communion. Thursday, October 31, 13
  16. 16. STATION 14 JESUS IS LAID IN THE SEPULCHRE. Without Jesus my heart is a cold and dark tomb. I was dead in sin and You brought me back to life. In Your resurrection, You lit up all corners of my heart. You turn dead stone to warm flesh. Jesus, my joy, my life, my highest hope. Lord, prepare for me and my family a place in Your kingdom. Thursday, October 31, 13
  17. 17. PRAYER TO JESUS CRUCIFIED Behold O kind and most sweet Jesus, I cast myself upon my knees in Your sight, and with the most fervent desire of my soul, I pray and beseech You that You would impress in my heart lively sentiments of faith, hope, and charity, with true contrition for my sins and a firm purpose of amendment; while with deep affection and grief of soul, I ponder within myself and mentally contemplate Your Five Wounds, having before my eyes the words which David the Prophet put on Your lips concerning You. "They have pierced My hands and My feet, they have numbered all My bones." Amen. One Our Father and one Hail Mary, at least, should be said for the Roman Pontiff's intentions if one is seeking to gain an Indulgence. Thursday, October 31, 13
