  1. 1. Learning Objectives: <ul><li>To understand how and why marks are awarded in the AS exam. </li></ul>
  2. 2. EXAM MARKING The exam question in the exam is worth 50 marks. There are four different levels – marks within each are divided into three sections eg. Level four EXPLANATION/ANALYSIS/ARGUMENT 16-20 marks USE OF EXAMPLES 16-20 marks USE OF TERMINOLOGY 8-10 marks
  3. 3. Explanation/Analysis/Argument <ul><li>You must construct an argument or analysis that is CONNECTED to the essay title. Use your introductions and conclusions to really highlight this – refer to the essay title. </li></ul>
  4. 4. USE OF EXAMPLES <ul><li>Be specific and detailed – give facts and figures if you can </li></ul><ul><li>Use case studies –competition between game console producers. </li></ul><ul><li>Use your own experience – is mentioned in the mark scheme. </li></ul>
  5. 5. TERMINOLOGY <ul><li>Use as many technical terms as you can! </li></ul>
  6. 6. MISTAKES <ul><li>Too short – marking criteria actually says – a brief response only achieves level one (under one and a half sides of answer booklet!) E grade. </li></ul><ul><li>Explain your points in detail using specific references. </li></ul><ul><li>Use the terminology! </li></ul>
  7. 7. The Question: <ul><li>Discuss the ways in which the internet is changing how media products are produced and distributed to audiences, with reference to the videogame industry. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Planning <ul><li>Produce a 5- section plan for your exam answer. </li></ul><ul><li>One section should be a brief introduction. </li></ul>
