the Cayman Islands.
Located just an hour’s plane ride or 480 miles south of Miami, the Cayman Islands is a British Overseas
Territory consisting of three separate islands: Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman. Inundated
with the vibrant tropical colours of the lush Caymanian flora, bright coral reefs, flourishing marine life and
exotic native birds, the Cayman Islands are a showcase of natural beauty.
22 miles long and 4 to 8 miles wide, Grand Cayman is the largest and most developed island with a
population of around 40,000 residents, supplemented on an annual basis by cruise ship visitors and air
arrivals. With no direct taxation, the islands are a thriving offshore financial centre. More than 60,000
companies are registered in the Cayman Islands, including almost 600 banks and trust companies with
banking assets exceeding $500 billion.
Tourism is a mainstay, accounting for about 70% of GDP and 75% of foreign
currency earnings. The tourist industry is aimed at the luxury market and caters
mainly to visitors from North America. The annual projection for the cruise
industry in the Cayman Islands is in excess
of 1.5 million passengers, with over 85%
from North America. The residents of
Grand Cayman enjoy one of the highest
outputs per capita and one of the highest
standards of living in the world.

Location, Location, Location. Island Companies Ltd. occupies the majority of
downtown George Town’s most strategic buildings. The recent completions of
the Active Capital owned multi-million dollar Flagship Building directly across
from the cruise ship pier, The Island Plaza with anchor tenant Margaritaville,
comprise one of the strongest retail real estate portfolios in the Caribbean.
A difference of two or three downtown blocks in a Caribbean cruise port
compares to miles and miles in any other retail settings and there is no
question that the traffic pattern in George Town has shifted. Through our
aggressive focus on the best real estate, Island Companies remains ahead of
the curve in capturing the locations that will best serve these new customer
traffic directions.

ISLAND TIME

to the needs of watch brands – the showcases are watch showcases, not
converted jewellery cases, all product is kept up close to the customer and
each brand has large wall space for branding use next to their product.
Our sales team are all proven watch sellers, creating a healthy competitive
and energetic atmosphere that translates into big transactions on a regular
basis. The reformatting of our watch sales format to dedicated spaces,
instead of mixed with jewellery spaces, has been a very successful strategy
that has increased our sales across all price points.
35. The workshop is located next to our Island Time store and is accessible to
our customers. When you visit you can observe the watchmaker and his
apprentice working together on repairing watches. Our workshop is using
the latest available technology and obtained the certification from the most
important watch brands in 2012.
The skill of watch repairing and watchmaking has come to the Cayman
Islands. Adrian Fernandez joined Island Companies about a year ago,
bringing his special talents to the Caribbean for the first time. Mr. Fernandez
comes from a long line of watchmakers including his grandfather, dad,
uncle and brother who are all in the business. He worked in Switzerland
and more recently the Netherlands, where he built movements for other
watchmakers.

49. THE MANSION
The single most significant luxury retail
location in the Caribbean is in the single
most significant development in the
Caribbean: The Mansion at Camana Bay.
51. Over a decade of research went into the overall design of Camana Bay’s
exteriors. The development’s design is the modern interpretation of a
meticulous study of Caymanian and West Indian architecture and the result
is nothing short of extraordinary. Island Companies was faced with the
challenge of creating their new, exclusive anchor store to be just as important
and credible. There was unanimous agreement that Grand Cayman did not
need another North American style department or jewellery store and as a
result, Active Capital’s Hugh Treadwell envisioned a design concept for this
store, one that ultimately pays tribute to the historical homes and public
buildings of Grand Cayman and which fits seamlessly within Camana Bay.
A large team from Active Capital, Island Companies Ltd and the design
company Artco completed painstaking research with the National Trust,
historians, historical architecture and interior design experts and the result
was The Mansion, a store that has accurately recreated the timeless and
simple designs of Cayman’s great houses and famous public buildings. It
is a home that is truly worthy of the luxury that resides within and one that
can grow and develop through the years.
52. As part of the local marketing strategy, Island
Companies has continued to enhance and increase the
number of events for locals, establishing the companies
outstanding event host on island irrespective of industry.
EVENT MANAGEMENT
54. EVENTS & E-MARKETING
Island Companies event calendar consists of a varied mix of styles and sizes, including; ‘Business
After Hours’ in George Town – a late night shopping and entertainment event hosting over 4000
people – the largest company event on island, the ‘Watch and Wine Dinner series’ –exclusive and
intimate events for 30-40 people in beautiful out-of-store locations such as Camana Bay terrace,
‘Ladies who lunch…’ – a ladies only champagne luncheon event at The Mansion to launch
jewellery brands to high demographic local ladies, grand opening events, brand celebrations and
more.
Alongside the expansion of the event calendar, Island Companies has worked industriously on
developing and growing a local database with great success. The company now boasts a well
profiled database of over 6000 locals, enjoying a response and ‘click through’ rate from e-mail
campaigns far in excess of industry averages - an event invitation typically receives 40-50% open
rate and around 20% RSVP rate.
As Island Companies database is maturing the uses of it are also expanding. In 2011 Island
Companies launched its newsletter and e-promotions, and new companiy website, with
information from activities in any area populating the database and stimulating the sales floor.
For example when a customer clicks on a link to a specific brand, we can filter that information
to the salesperson who last worked with the customer to follow up by direct telephone or e-mail.
2013 will see a continued expansion of online activity with a focus on social media driven growth.
56. We pride ourselves on throwing the most entertaining
and compelling brand events in the Caribbean.
With a mixture of fresh ideas and trademark quality,
each event is a unique and memorable occasion for

81. THE FUTURE
Today, Camana Bay’s comprehensive design and master planning combined with the best location on
the island, has resulted in the new Town Centre already becoming the location of choice for shopping,
dining, entertainment, enrichment, recreation and community on the island of Grand Cayman.
In the future, Camana Bay will continue to grow and develop. With over 500 acres of land stretching
from the sea to the sound, an ongoing and comprehensive 30 year strategic plan and a developer with
the extensive resources and vision to succeed, Camana Bay will ensure that it remains the pre-eminent
place to work, live and play.
Numerous new restaurants, retail stores and commercial tenants are all arriving this year. The next
phase of residential property is underway with over 200 condominiums, town homes and estates to be
delivered over the next five years. A 150-180 key luxury, iconic boutique hotel is in development with
an anticipated opening in three years along with a 26 acre public park.
The development climate overall on Grand Cayman continues to be robust. The Ritz Carlton is fully
underway with substantial residential, hotel and resort development. The fabled Seven Mile Beach has
major multi-million dollar residential projects currently under construction and slated to break ground
over the next three years. The Cayman Islands Government is leading a financial industry incentive
campaign that is unprecedented and is also building a new cruise berthing facility. All this validates
Grand Cayman as the top location in the Caribbean and with Camana Bay as the top location on
Grand Cayman, our business partnerships will continue to prosper and grow.
